Commercial Description:
Beer of the Gods is an unusual blend of styles from Old Germany. We’ve taken the pale Pilsner malt used for Cologne’s famed Kölsch style and loads of spicy noble hops used in the best Altbier from nearby Dusseldorf. And we’ve topped it off with a liberal dose of extra aroma hops during a lengthy lagering stage. The result? An American beer that blends the best of two old world classics: a beer as drinkable as the very best Kölsch that satisfies like a supreme Altbier. Think of it as a German-style Farmhouse Ale. Beer of the Gods is, of course, unpasteurized and unfiltered. Alcohol content is 4.9%.

Bottled. Hazy pale yellowish colour, small white head. Aroma is a lot of lemon along with slightly papery and wheaty hints. Flavour is very much nothing, only some mild lemon, slight spices and sour hints. Quite soapy.

First rating infected, re-rated in June 2009. Hazy golden with a small white head. Fruity aroma with a sulphur note. Dry and grainy with some malt or husk astringency.

Bottle@GBBF07. Grainy aroma with herbal hops. Hazy, yellow color, white head, good lace. Light malty, grainy, bitter, herbal, light soapy finish, thin. I’m not relegious but why would a god be drinking this?

A Mes rate: Bottle at GBBF. Watery yellow appearance but with a decent head. One dimensional lemony hop aroma with very little else going on. Flavour is awfully soapy and eveything else it has to offer is completely masked by it. Certainly not the beer of the gods in my opinion.

Bottle from GBBF ’07. Hazy gold with a white head. Spicy citric aroma, but that doesn’t describe it at all. I thought I detected raw potato and ginger as well. Taste is spicy and quite gentle at first with tobacco and coriander, however the dry surge at the end is quite startling. ’German-style Farmhouse Ale’, they say? Well it’s not a style I’m familiar with.

Bottle, from the GBBF. Hazy gold, airy clean white cap that settles into a compact 1/2 inch. Piney, coriander seed, spring garden herbal aroma. Brisk full herbal hoppy bite, spicy, bracing. Melon, peach fruitiness. A gentle malt sweetness rounds it out. A flavorful but approachable pale ale. Well done.

Thanks to I believe Badgerben for sharing. Pours a cloudy light straw yellow. Very tart nose of lemon and grapefruit. Super tart flavor, that I can’t tell if it is infected or intended to be this way, but it kinda works with very tart citrus dominating.
