Commercial Description:
Beer of the Gods is an unusual blend of styles from Old Germany. We’ve taken the pale Pilsner malt used for Cologne’s famed Kölsch style and loads of spicy noble hops used in the best Altbier from nearby Dusseldorf. And we’ve topped it off with a liberal dose of extra aroma hops during a lengthy lagering stage. The result? An American beer that blends the best of two old world classics: a beer as drinkable as the very best Kölsch that satisfies like a supreme Altbier. Think of it as a German-style Farmhouse Ale. Beer of the Gods is, of course, unpasteurized and unfiltered. Alcohol content is 4.9%.

This beer is pretty much crap. Thin, rather acidic aroma. Papery, bitter flavor. Blech.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with a thin white head and little bits of sediment. The aroma was wheaty and something indiscernable. Tasted a bit of spice, but for the most part was undrinkable.

12 oz. bottle from beastiefan2k. Pour is a hazy yellow - golden with a pure white fluffy white head. Decent retention on the head, with some pretty lacing. There are some floating particulates visible on the pour. Aroma of sour lemon earthiness. Some malty wheatiness in the nose as well. Seemed to be a Wit or Saison nose. Flavor was pretty unusual, it had the lemon and earthiness, but the sour seemed a little bit displaced in the flavor, only appearing at the back of the tongue on the finish. There is a nice depth to the bready citrus maltiness. Overall the palate is a bit on the thin side, but the lack of filtering makes the body seem much bigger. Similar to the other High & Mighty beer I have had, very interesting, different, and well done.

Bottle at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. Hazy straw colour. The concept sounded more interesting than the reality. A little grassy hop but mainly bready, almost doughy, malt. Too much of it for my liking. This produced a rather dull mouthfeel.Tasted rather tired. Perhaps an elderly bottle (I didn’t actually look at the bottle)?

Pours a clouded gold. White head that falls to nothing eventually. Nose is a metallic and citrus mix. There’s an odd funk to it. Flavor is...not good. Ack. Pasty dough with an acrid lemon hit. Just does nothing for me. Feel is okay. Overall this is not very drinkable. I can’t suggest it and I would never go back to it again.

12 oz bottle courtesy of beastiefan2k. Pours cloudy light yellow with a very intense sticky white head. The aroma is herbal and lemony, much like a lemon balm plant. The flavor is very lemony also, with a weird mint note and some honeyish sweet malt. It finishes more on the bitter side than I was expecting, leaving a lingering citric dryness in the aftertaste. Quite interesting, and even refreshing.

(35.5cl bottle) Hazy, yellow colour with a beautiful blond foamy head. Citrousy and herbal hoppy nose with a light-grainy malty sweetness, accompanied by a spicy, slightly tart phenolic touch. Bitter flavour, quite slim bodied with a crispy carbonation. Soft malty, slightly yeasty and moderately fruity (grapefruits, lemon) taste with a fresh hops character; dry, bitter and hoppy finish with spicy and yeasty notes. Not overly balanced but pretty likeable.
