Bottle. Almost black with a nice head. Taste is roasted malts, coffee and a Belgian chocolate taste. Bitter hops was a nice surprise as was the roastiness of the malts. Smooth finish.

Picked up a growler of this stuff since I just couldn’t afford to get busted for DUI and I just couldn’t leave without trying it. Glad I did. Great stuff. Darkest pour with a deep brown head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Flavors were very roasty with coffee and some hoppiness in the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden. A little dusty on the finish too. Amost porter-like for just a second after the swallow. Very good.!!!!!

[At GABF 2004] A pitch black beer with an orange head. The aroma is very roasty with notes of chocolate and coffee. The flavor is extremely roasty and again with notes of chocolate and coffee - nice one.

Thick, velvety tan head and a deep, but translucent, caramel brown body. Espresso and dark chocolate aroma. Very full flavor with nice big fruity rum raisin notes. Subdued roastiness. Not a huge imperial stout but still a nice sipper.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2004 ReRate3-Fall 04 batch. I acutally got a growler of this brew this time around and i must say, its not as good as I once thought it was. The flavors are clean and very roasty, but the palate is thin for an imperial stout. I dont know what the ABV is on this, but i dont think its that high. More like a strong stout than an imperial. ReRate2-Summer04 batch-This was thinner than the spring batch, which had more heavy body and more alcohol. Not as well balanced. I will mark it down 2 points. Rerate-Spring 04 batch-tap at brewery. This batch is awesome!! I was talking to the master brewer and he told me that they use Centennial hops in this brew, which really suprised me. They come through in the bitterness and mix well with the huge amount of roasted malts. A definate twist on the style and it works, especially for hopheads like me. tap at brewery-Jet black with minimal tan head-flavor was full of roasted and chocolate notes with a touch of smoke. heavy on the roasted notes. finish was sweet and strong, lasting minutes after the sip.
