An almost black "extra" porter, with added lactose, velvet smooth with a pleasing bitter sweet finish, and a thick creamy tan head. Named after our grumpy bull Fred.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 2 on 1 December 2010. Was this a mislabel? The bar staff assured me it wasn’t. Reddish colour - certainly not black. Distinctly malty but it’s more caramel, toffee and a touch of fruity malt loaf that roast. Also some nutty notes. Will re-rate if I see this again as I’m still not convinced it was the right beer.

Cask (gravity) @ 27th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2010, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England

Light light unclear medium amber colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, tobbacco, light toasted - roasted - caramel, vomit notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20101201]

Pigs Ear. Hazy amber beer?! No real head. Light dry palate. Low carbonation. Reasonably well balanced dark toffee malt and tangy orange and dried fruit hop. Ok. But a porter?????

Cask at the Pig’s Ear BF 2010. Pours dark amber with a light film of a head. Deep toffee aroma with light toast and caramel. Flavor is malty, pretty sweet, lightly toasty with faint nuttiness. Light to meium in body with fine carbonation. Lingering malts, very faint bitterness, some pecans and other nuts in the finish. Good stuff.
