Cask@Derby Summer Beer Festival 2006. Reddish beer with a hopped aroma and a lightly fruity and lightly hopped flavour. Overall a nice beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 8, 2012
First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2005. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Pleasant sweet aroma of toffee, short in intensity. Thin but smooth mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a long digestive biscuit flavour which is laced with soft caramel and hedgerow berry notes. Strong note of hop resins gives a dusty, earthy, metallic aftertaste which combines well with the sweet malt. Finish is robust and full bodied with soft sweet caramel and dry milk chocolate notes. An old fashioned style of ESB and highly recommended.

1) Cask handpull at High House Farm. Deep tawny amber slicked with white. Musky, berryish and slightly dank aroma. Marzipan, oak and strawberry hints; vanilla, biscuit and a bit of beefiness. Not bad.
2) Bottle purchased at the farm, filtered but not pasteurised by the looks of it. Bright chestnut pour with a dissipating white head. Musky herbal hop aroma with strong ganja notes, berries, vegetables and weetabix. Slightly dank and herbal in the mouth; marzipan and medicinal cherry edging out the hops, chocolate, berry and caramel hints. Dry hop bite to finish with some northern stoniness. Bit too much alcohol, and the aroma hops get drowned out in the mouth, but a pretty soild bottled bitter.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Fin’s excellent Merton Beer Festival. An excellent bright amber colour with a thin but good white head and in very good condition. A good fruity and sugary brown ale type aroma with some pale malt and faint hops. Similar flavour. Very fruity and sweet. Nice dry, fruity finish. Interesting and rather tasty.

Cask conditioned at Harbury Beer Fest ’07. Chestnut colour with white head. Lovely fruit, wild berries, brown ale, full bodied with a sweetish background. Vague but interesting hop note giving a beery aroma with rich malts. Really good beer.
