Beer of the Gods is a refreshing German-style beer that could never happen in Germany – as easy to drink as the best Kölsch but as hoppy and satisfying as a supreme Altbier. And the best news? At only 4.5%, it won’t keep you from doing the important things in life. Sure, we know that those well-endowed beers will get all the press, but, just once, how about some props for the little guy?

Malts: German Pilsner and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2013 Hazy pale yellow body, small fizzy white head, moderate lacing. Nose is cracked pepper, grassy hops, and some lemon zest. A bit zippy like a fresh pilsener. Flavor follows suit with lemon and cracked pepper taking center stage. Light bodied. Crisp finish. A pleasant, but simple beer.

Bottle. Clear golden, small head. Hay and grainy notes in aroma. Grainy notes, some bitterness and subtle garden fruityness in taste. Unpleasant bitterness in aftertaste at first, got slightly better later on with some fruityer notes though.

12 oz. bottle 2014. Light, endearing touch. Firm but fair mouthfeel. Mild friction in the mineral bed body. Soft pineapple water spiked with dried apricot. More oval than round.

Pours a slightly hazy golden body with the yeast appearing a distinct heavy clumps on the bottom of the glass. The head is white, nice and frothy and leaves decent lacing on the glass. Nose is mild with some citrus fruits, wheatand yeast. Taste is bitter with some sourness to it, the finish is mildly bitter and decently long. Carbonation is lively and the palate is average. Overall decent but lacks a little character and distinction.

On tap at Battleship. Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a medium white head that lasts. Aroma is of straw, bread, grass, minerals, clove, and perfume. The flavor is absolutely identical. Has a big earthiness flavor. Kind of a funky saison finish. Not really up my alley.

Backlog. On tap at Green Lion Inn. Dominated by grassy- and herbal-notes. Not really my cup of tea.

Keg at Deep Ellum. Pours straw yellow with a light haze, thin white head, and reasonable lacing. Aroma is average, with some grass, straw, and a light lemony hop character. Taste is not my thing, very much on the lager flavour spectrum, with some slightly astringent grassy sweetness and very light hop flavour. Finish is light, with low carbonation. Overall, very mediocre beer.

12oz bottle from Party Source. Surprisingly hazy sort of pale golden color. Minimal white head. Pretty minimal flavor, but it’s very spicy, kind of soapy. Kind of lemony. Like lemon cleaner. Lighter body, softer carbonation. Dry finish. Zesty taste, moderate to bigger bitter. Malts are lost in the mix, and hops are too soapy and spicy to be satisfying. Light tartness. I went into this assuming it was a pale lager based off the label, and was surprised by the haziness and general confusion in the flavor. Looks like RB has it classified as a golden ale, but it’s so different and less smooth, very rough around the edges, quite spicy... And what about this is supposed to be German-style? Odd beer. Maybe and old / bad bottle.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale yellow body with a one finger fizzy white head that left a bit of lacing. The nose is lightly bready with a minimal floral hop note and a touch of fruitiness. The flavor is rather light, a bit of bready pils malt, some light German hops, and some light wheat. Light bodied and watery in texture with fine fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice sessionable Blond. Enough character and hops to keep it interesting.
