COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beer of the Gods is a refreshing German-style beer that could never happen in Germany – as easy to drink as the best Kölsch but as hoppy and satisfying as a supreme Altbier. And the best news? At only 4.5%, it won’t keep you from doing the important things in life. Sure, we know that those well-endowed beers will get all the press, but, just once, how about some props for the little guy?

Malts: German Pilsner and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

12 oz bottle from Spirit Haus in Amherst MA (September 2006) imbibed from a HOTD glass at cellar temperature. Totally stunning appearance, shiny/luminous very cloudy, unfiltered yellow-gold with a gigantic fluffy ice-cream-soda head which very slowly descends leaving thick, thick lacing....very fresh grassy, perfumy aroma, faint traces of oak and white grapes and a bit of orange zest, rather complex for the style but mostly inviting and zippy....crisp, bitter character predominates in the body, reminiscent more of a German pils at first than an English golden ale -- it actually fits the commercial description very well -- with sharp dry grassy hops increasing throughout the mouthfeel, though light caramelized textures in the malts and lower carbonation do belie initial lager feel....wonderfully round, the balance goes more to sweetness and maltiness with warmth....this is just beautiful and will certainly be a regular fixture for me now that it’s available in Vermont.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy yellow pour, smallish head. Clearly a very fresh keg and boy does this deliver more than I would’ve expected, with a vibrant noble hop nose of spicy and grassy hop, touches of light but gorgeously subtle malt and it dries out at the finish. Excellent beer.

From a bomber. Pour is very nice too look at, a big rocky head on a bubbling hazey lookin lager colored thing. Smell is crisp and fresh. Taste has lots of sizzling co2. It says its hoppy but the taste is not overwhelming hoppy; you can taste it tho. Hops do build as session continues. Seems to be more than the 4.5% listed here. Overall not bad for a somewhat unsweetened citrusy beer. Didn’t think I’d like this but it was OK!

Spicy, with a complex hoppy balance...nice flavor. Very crisp. The Gods are pleased I’m sure.

12 oz. bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks, Blake! Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a medium white head that lasts. Aroma of straw, bread, grass, minerals, sawdust, and perfume. The flavor is absolutely identical. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, crisp mouthfeel. Might suffice for lesser gods.

Bottle at home. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma light to medium malty (caramel) and hoppy (flowery, notes of citrus). Flavor light to medium sweet and bitter, light spicy. Light body.

12oz Bottle, purchased at Downtown Wine & Spirits - Somerville, MA. Light, subtle, salty and plain grain aroma. Coulda guessed this was a Golden Ale. Hazy. This really feels and tastes like pils malt. It’s clean and that’s commendable. A nice snap in the finish. The water works well for this brew. It’s pilsner-like, which I enjoy. I think I would have so much more appreciation for this if it was 85F and sunny, which reminds me that this will be a go to summer beer next year. I’m looking forward to having a local, clean malt drinker like this.

The label sets the bar pretty high and it unfortunately doesn’t hit the mark for me. Pours a yellow colour with a white head that dies away almost immediately. Aroma of yeast and corn. Similar corny flavour with some caramel, grass, yeast and a little alcohol coming through at the back. Low carbonation and a slick, oily mouth-feel. A little CO2 prickle and a long corny, yeasty linger. Not my thing.

12oz bottle. Pours out a lighter golden hue, white head decent lacing. Not much coming from the aromas, some citrus, little nutty, doughy, but light notes. Crisp and clean palate, but not really much flavor. Palate isn’t super balanced, light and messy, some steely off flavors. Pretty average.
