Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can’t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer – do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place?
You need a beer you can trust, and that’s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot – the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 – but you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Vienna and Munich malts add just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American.

Malts: German Pilsner, Vienna, Cara-Munich, and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

NOTE: ABV is stated as 6.5% on the bottle but 5.4% on the website. The former appears to be correct.

Bottle from State Line Liquors. Slightly hazy orange yellow pour. Nice grassy hop aroma. Light sweetness. Earthy and grassy. Very hoppy finish. Nice and light and easy to drink. Decent lager.

(Bottle). Aroma is hoppy and citrus, along with some yeasty malt. Very hazy orange amber in color, with a creamy off-white head that leaves quite pretty lacing. Flavor is very hoppy and citrus, but it’s also supported by lager breadiness and malt. Very pleasant hoppy finish. Overall, a bit of a hybrid brew. Different and excellent.

Bomber. Hazy deep amber with a frothy off-white head. Fruity and floral aroma, with honey, citrus, apple, pear, some white grape and a bit of caramel. Light caramel and honeyed cereal flavors, with a nice fruity/citrusy presence. Lemon/grapefruit hoppy finish. Medium to full body. Nicey balanced and quite enjoyable. A pleasant surprise.

The label on this bottle says it is 4.9% abv. It pours a slightly hazy medium gold colour with over a 1 finger head of foam but doesn’t leave a lot of lacing. The smell is big grain that reminds me of an AAL. I truly can’t smell anything else. The taste took me by surprise. Very hoppy and very bitter. Grapefruit flavour that is more bitter than I’m used to. It has an earthy malt presence that doesn’t seem to bring any balance. Some grainy notes now just showing up. Weird. Lots of carbonation, imho...too much. The body is nice. Interesting brew but not something I’d want to drink again.

I had this beer maybe a couple weeks ago. I don’t remember too much about the flavor. I do remember I didn’t think it was anything special. It didn’t taste as fresh and clean as their XPA, which I like.

This is what a lager should be. A gold/bronze color with a powerful thick head. The malty fruity smell is subtle as are the bitter grassy hops taste. I wish I could find a bar with this on tap because I could drink it all night.

Bottled on June 4, 08. Chunky rusty amber color with a dense creamy head. Lemony, orangina like hop-forward aroma. Clean and slightly toasty with light caramel. Surprisingly full nose for a lager of any kind, in my experience. Round and hugely clean flavor, with a pithy, bitter citrus finish. Bready malts and slightly yeasty - nice lacing, by the way. Mushy and chewy, with a grassy and herbal component. Soft finish. Really well balanced and very drinkable. As flavorful and interesting a lager as I’ve had.

Crystal clear orange gold; medium frothy white head. Light aroma. Slightly sweet flavor. Medium body. I actually would like this lighter and even less sweet. This just isn’t all that.

This the 4.9% version in a 22 oz bottle. Pours an opaque, cloudy light yellow. The head is long lasting, fluffy white with lacing and sculpting. The nose is hops. The palate is light medium body that is dominated by hops. there is no balance to this beer. It is a dry beer.
