COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can’t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer – do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place?
You need a beer you can trust, and that’s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot – the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 – but you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Vienna and Munich malts add just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American.

Malts: German Pilsner, Vienna, Cara-Munich, and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

NOTE: ABV is stated as 6.5% on the bottle but 5.4% on the website. The former appears to be correct.

Light amber pour, nice white head. Citrus hops burst forward more than most lagers can dream of. Malt is a bit grainy/corny in aroma. Flavor is crisp and pretty clean with a fair malt bill and a nice crisp hop bite. All in all not half bad.

Slightly sour, almost Bohemian Pilsener aroma. Medium, foggy, amber brown. Sweet, with raisin/bock/vienna toastiness, and good German hops. Medium to medium-heavy body. Crisp, citrus pith finish at first which mellows out into a chalky aftertaste. Not bad. New Leaf Market.

Hazy golden coloured body with a nice large white head. Aroma of very strong, pungent alcohol, malt, metal and a touch of light frutiness. Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavours with a dose of light hops, some apricot and peach tastes, a bit of floral notes and some major metallic tastes. Aftertaste is relatively nice, some deep pungent maltiness, some good hop balance and a mild dryness that couples well with the finish. Overall, a good beer, not amazing, but definitely good for the style and a welcome sample! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Knightly Spirits (Orange Blossom) in Orlando, Florida on 15-November-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 27-November-2010.

Light and clean nose with just a hint of cracker malt. Taste is light and fairly dry, some crisp malt, like biscuit, a touch of honey. Finish is a tad watery. Solid.

Cask at GBBF 2010. An unclear golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of fruits - mostly peaches and lemons. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and grapefruits, leading to a dry and bitter finish.
