Draft at Redlight Redlight. Pours a cloudy mess of a brown color, looking like a ton of yeast made it into the keg. Smell is alright, strong coffee and some cocoa. Body is thin. Flavor is horrible. Burnt espresso is beyond strong. I like espresso, but this isn’t right. Strong metallic flavor owns the finish and lingers. Two sips and down the drain. This is vile and undrinkable.

Tap @ redlight redlight. A coffee dry stout. Creamy head over brown/black body. Nose is the best part: very roasty, chocolate and espresso. Body is thin and a bit too carbonic. Some nice roastiness, light balanced coffee flavor.

draft @ redlight redlight. Creamy coffee on the nose with hints of molasses and bitter chocolate. Pours black with a thin tan head. Very nice coffee flavor with some vanilla and a slight sourness in the flavor. The body is a little thin but over all its a pretty good session stout.

Tasting at a beerfest [Disclaimer: This was tasted along with many, many other beers during a tasting at Julios. Some of the details are a little hazy]. I liked this one but felt it was a little thin compared to some of the other espresso style stouts I have had.

So the coffee and stout is becoming a very common site on the shelves of all beer stores. And i sort of started avoiding them after trying java by southern tier because it was so overwhelming. But this is much more mild with the same great roasted coffee flavor but less alcohol kick. dark color, milky body and rich bitter coffee taste. A coffee beer you could drink in the morning.

Sample at D-Day. Really enjoyed this one. Pour is a dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is balanced nicely between coffee, chocolate, and toasted barley. Flavors are much of the same. Has a good creaminess and nice coffee finish.

Sampled from 22-oz bomber and shared during Surly D-Day. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin off-white ring. Aroma of mostly coffee character with some light chocolate what over-powers the toasted dark malt essence. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with continued taste of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and some flowery hops. Finish has a mild bitterness with a lingering coffee aftertaste.

22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Pours an opaque black with minimal head and lace. Interesting coffee nose that seems promising enough, if rather one-dimensional. Body comes up with active carb and a nice creaminess on the high side of medium. Tantalizing forward flavors of coffee and chocolate. The mid-palate falls completely apart, though. It’s watery, neutral, and vacant before you’re halfway done with a sip. Finishes absently. Very disappointing, given the good first impression.

(Bottle). Sweet coffee and chocolate aroma, with notes of toffee, some hops. Near black pour, with large light brown head, plenty of lacing. Flavor is bold and sweet; chocolate, coffee, appropriate bitterness. Substantial mouthfeel. Finish is lasting and bittersweet.
