22oz from the Co-Op here in Grass Valley, CA. $14.49, bit over priced if you ask me (now that it’s been consumed). Pours big bold and black with a tanned head that sits for a moment. Roasty toasty malty nose, hints of burnt bourbon, and dark chocolate. Flavor has a lot of the same, fairly smooth in a cocoa way up front, moving into a bold yet polite roasted malt flavor, then blending well with a bourbon note, lighter than expected, but well fit into the brew. Everything blends really well here, and it’s pretty thick on the palate. Hints of tobacco and leather. I guess I was hoping for a bit more bourbon, and there’s not much wood that I picked up on, especially for $15, but overall a very well made brew. Thick, to the point, and not over done. Won’t buy again, but a goody!

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, milk chocolate, vanilla and carmel. Palte was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, oak, dark chocolate, dried fruit, carmel and a hint of bourbon with a smooth dry lingering roasty oak finish.

Bottle shared by Bill at Vinny’s January 2013 tasting. Unfortunately this tasted a bit infected, but not too bad as I don’t necessarily hate a sour porter. Pours a deep body with some lacing. Aroma is oak, sour vinegar, and musk. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of toasted malts, light chocolate, vinegar, sour fruit and oak. I would love to try this again given the great feedback.

Tap. Pours opaque black with a large brown creamy head and nice lacing. Aroma is mostly coffee and cigarettes. Flavor is the same, with notes of chocolate, wood and oranges. Medium sweet, light coffee bitterness growing to medium in the finish. Burned notes in the finish. Full body, lightly creamy, well masked ABV.

Bottle shared by Bill. Pretty sure this guy was infected which sucked since it had good reviews. It wasnt full on nasty but you could tell the sour was outweighing the porter. Notes were rusty penny, and bad vinegar. I could still get some oak and roasty malt out of it but wasnt enough to enjoy it, drain pour it is.

Bottle... Poured dark brown with a bubbly head. This was nice with pronounced oak tones. Woody, earthy and a good malted sweetness. Smooth and easy to drink with a smooth wood notes going on. Some dark fruits with coffee and mocha/cocoa.

(Bottle) Pours black with a creamy brown head. The aroma holds milk chocolate, dark chocolate/cocoa, coffee, tar, some liquorice, light anise, subtle cinnamon, earth, brown sugar, dark caramel and soft oak (wood and vanilla). Hints of blackberries, dark cherries, flowers, nutshells and maybe a touch of dark fruits. Deep and elegant nose. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and tiny acidic with notes of deep/soft roast, balanced hops and subtle oak. Hints of dark berries. The mouthfeel is super soft, smooth, fairly velvety and tiny astringent with a light carbonation. Fancy roast, earthy hops and some light sour berries on the finish. Medium to full bodied.

Bomber courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours black with a dark chocolate mocha head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and full bodied with roasted malts, sweet dark bread, resinous wood, sweet liquorice candy, moist soil, vanilla, toffee, pine, black pepper, dark quality chocolate, brown sugar, slightly dry grass and hints of dark roast coffee and alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, resinous wood, pumpernickel, liquorice root, moist soil, anise seed, minerals, vanilla fudge, bitter cocoa powder, dark roast coffee, lemon zest and hints of prunes. Mouthfeel is smooth, silky, round, rich, tiny dry and medium bodied. Finish is bitter, tiny sour and malty with pumpernickel, roasted malts, cocoa powder, minerals, dark roast coffee, anise seed, resinous wood and hints of lemon peal. Smooth and incredibly rich. A nice surprise...
