COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After several months of barrel aging we have declared Old & In The Way Barley Wine ready for release! We have a fairly limited supply available. In total, 236 cases of 22 oz bombers were produced, as well as a limited supply of 1/6 BBL kegs. Look for the bottles at your local craft beer supplier. The draft version will be making special appearances over the next few months. Two batches were brewed and both were barrel aged in 12Yr Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels. The first batch was a more traditional English Style while the second batch leaned a little more toward the US style. In the end however they were both blended together to produce something a little more High Water style

On draft at the Bistro Barrel fest. Can’t wait for the blend in a couple months! As a stand alone beer, this one was pretty impressive. It has aromas of caramel, toffee and nuts with a sweet, nutty flavor. Caramel and toffee notes dominate with some serious alcohol heat before some wood in the finish. Nice one.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 One of my favorite styles, this BBBW is quite subtle in wood, with toffee, dried fruit and slight vanilla coming forth. Dry finish with a medium full mouthfeel.

Tasted at the 6th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/12/2011. This Barley wine poured a medium to dark brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, toffee, fruity and sweet, with a whole lot of bourbon and wood. A medium to full bodied Barley wine. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Lots of bourbon and wood flavors. The hops are herbal and earthy. It’s a little hot and unbalanced, but if it’s a preview of what’s coming, this is gonna be a very good barley wine. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a cream colored head. Bourbona nd light sweet malt aroma with earthiness. Bourbon and brown sugar flavor with caramel. Medium bodied. Brown sugar and bourbon lingers.

On tap At The Bistro BA Fest poured a hazy brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of bourbon, toffee, carmel and light fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bourbon, toffee and light carmel with a smooth lingering bourbon finish.

On tap at the Bistro BA Fest. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and a strong bourbon aroma. There is a syrupy malt flavor with a massive alcohol trail. A bit more aging should help.

On tap at the Bistro -Bal Aged Fest. Mostly clear medium brown color with minimal head. Nice bourbon and toffee aroma with oak and maybe some cinnamon/spice. The flavor is great, with the base beer and the Heaven Hill balanced well. Slight oak and vanilla, sweet toffee and fig. Medium-plus body with low carbonation. Excellent beer - one of the highlights of the fest.
