3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask Conditioned at The Bell, Banbury. Dark brown beer with thin head. Looks like they had a bad un at GBBF, this is a favourite at Dave's pub, always on tap. Fruity juicy sweet mild with plenty of roasted malt. Thin palate but a decent powdery coffee bitter finish.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask, GBBF2003. Ruby red brown, good head and moderate fine condition. Slight sulphury egg note above low level fruitiness, some roastiness in the mouth but with a dry, mouldy mushroom note. Finish was short and sweet.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Cask, GBBF 2003 Huge sulphur aroma - very eggy. Some sweetness up front, but eggy flavour continues into taste spoiling the experience of this famous mild. Quite watery. An award winning barman at the same table said it wasn't off. (The discussion with Nuffield regarding sulphur aroma in beer was a general discussion on the open fermenting tanks of Yorkshire and Burton which would produce a typical sulphur aroma because the yeasts would become very active and start farting a chemical which would produce the sulphur smell)

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pretty lame. didn't get much out of it. Really sulfury, eggy nose, dull, grainy, with mild roasted, choc flavours, dry finish. Milds can be a bit hit and miss sometimes (cask- GBBF 03')

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Highgate was bought out in 2000 by Aston Manor. Putrid, diarrhea aroma, eggs, sulpher...and a hint of fruit. Thin body and mouthfeel. The flavor doesn't contain the same unpleasantries, but it just gives you a slightly chalky maltiness. A loose head on a dark body with ruby edges. SilkTork suggested that this beer was designed to be as sulphuric as it tasted to me--it wasn't a keg in bad shape, just bad beer. (cask at GBBF 2003)
