COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasterised bottle.
Named after the foxes that used to live within the brewery grounds, Nob being the Old English for head. A copper coloured beer brewed using pale, crystal and black malt with a small amount of high maltose syrup. Progress, Fuggle and Golding hops provide the bitterness and each cask is generously dry hopped at rack using Styrian Golding.
Tasting notes: An exquisite floral nose with citrus notes is the prelude to a rich palate of malt and fruit and a long dry bitter finish. Fox’s Nob is also available in 500ml bottle and because no isinglass is used in production, is a beer suitable for vegetarians.

21st Aug 2010, I wrote this: Sadly the brewery is now closed and up for sale, so this review of a 500ml brown bottle will most likely be the last one for this beer. The 4.4%ABV bottle had a before use date of Aug 2010, so it is three weeks out of date today: poured into my newish ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard. It is a horrible day outside and I’m dog sitting, this is a ’live’ review! Frankie, the black Labrador Retriever doesn’t say much, but looks interested as I pour the beer, not that he is getting any. Lovely amber, copper coloured body, good white foaming crown on top, the beer looks clear and inviting. The nose is mostly malts, some citrus notes like the cask version, but not as fruity. The taste is creamy and malty, with a good hop bitterness blended within it. Very easy to drink and I’ll miss this breweries beers. I still have a couple of others to review though, so although the brewery has gone I’ll remember their beers for a bit longer yet!

ALLOVATE (1719) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - DEC 10, 2010
Produces a tawny amber, dull, not quite clear. The carbonation visible is minute and limited to a few odd streams in the centre of the glass. Head nothing more than a thinly off-white pad with little legs. Aroma is a medley darting from marmalade, to toffee and Anzac biscuits, to salted nuts and raw karri wood. Quite thin in the mouth, not far removed from the aroma. Touch of marmalade upfront, toasted malt mid-palate, a mix of burnt sugar bitterness and herbal, dusty hops towards the rear. Soapy finish is a little disagreeable, the aftertaste is more marmalade, hops and caramel. Good promise of triple hopping just doesn’t land well in the bottle. Average session bitter. (50cL, labelled Davenports, BBE 03/11, Cellarbrations Kinross)

500ml bottle. Pours amber with a small head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a hint of hops. No real hops on the tastle, just sweet, sickly malt. The bitter finish is quite nice though.

50cl bottle, CM-Vantaa. Pours Hazy light amber with a small head. Aroma is weak of apple and sweet. Very light bodied, but not watery. Flavour is fruity with apple and lightly hopped. Too light, but enjoyed with chicken, this was OK.

These pommy ales all start to taste abit the same. This one has the usual sweetness put some big maltiness. Lingering with low carbonation.

First rate from The Wine Cellar in about 2 years, but only because I’m too stupid to spot it at every supermarket in The West/East Midlands. Pale bronze with a subsiding cap. Whiff of pencilly hop through maltose and marzipan; twist of aniseed; very CE, Black Country, Highgate. Empty with caramel and flaky pastry. BIG dose of Bertie Bassett.Thin and insipid beer with a cream and honey sweetness that drowns out any hop interest promised by the hatrick of Mt Hood, Fuggles and Progress. Drinkable with no off notes, but Highgate’s habit of adding a ladle of syrup to every beer they produce gets on my tits.

austone (1062) - Turku; Pori, FINLAND - MAY 28, 2009
Bottled, bbe April/09. Mildly hazy amber, firm pale head. Pear, little toffee and slight minerals, very mild. Flavor shows the age with old pear, toffee maltiness, minerals, even solvents, simple and quite dry. Light to medium bodied, soft tight carbonation. A dull bitter, but with 1€ á bottle this was a steal, a sack of them and off did I go.
