ante (2473), Stockholm (Bromma), Sweden May 8, 2008 Bottled, thanks omhper! Pours out in a clear reddish brown colour with a low creamy tan-coloured foam. Inviting deep malty aroma of raisins, figs, salt and tobacco. Medium-bodied with notes of crackers, prunes, fudge, sweet licorice and nuts. Smooth mouthfeel. Salt, prunes, raisins and soily hops in a well-balanced finish.
harrisoni (5109), Ashford, Kent, England Aug 21, 2008 500ml bottle from Sainsbury. Some good chewy malts on aroma. On cask this is a real favourite of mine. Some smoke, some laid back liquorice. It is an unusual style that I must admit I like very much. It’s just got interesting flavours that you don’t get in other beers. Slight sour edge to the molasses on the end but then some more rich malt. Bit of a stunner. Fin (2164), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Aug 20, 2008 Bottle, from Sainsbury’s, Kidlington, Oxon, 20-08-08 Pours dark brown with tan head. Big on chocolate both in mouth and on nose. Lacks in bitterness, instead quite creamy cocoa smooth and easy drinking. tlind2 (208), Helsinki, Finland Aug 14, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep brown color, ruby highlights, tan head. High carbonation, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor is very similar to Old Ember, with pronounced bitterness. Didn’t like this one much either. bman1986 (72), Broadstairs, Kent, England Jul 20, 2008 Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Broadstairs: Poured a very dark brown, almost black. Sweet with lots of raisin and other fruit flavours. Also slight sourness as you’d expect in an old ale. Could do with a little more body but rather good nonetheless. azlondon (480), Greater London, England Jun 27, 2008 Appearance: Dark brown. Little bit of head. Shortlived.
Aroma: Malty. Fruity. Berries/Raisins.
Taste: Nice malt. Vinous fruit. Burnt.
