Damn, can’t believe I’m the only one on the site to make it over to Tyler’s for the Highland pint night in early August. Anyways, it was a treat to dial up a couple snifters of this one. Nice thick black pour, with a faint dusting of sediment and a nice firm tan head. Nose was really terrific, with dark chocolate and char along with just a hint of cherry and wood. Nice full mouthfeel, good carbonation but not obtrusive. Palate was quite complex, with a bit of a bite from the wood and some slight heat that complemented the velvety mouthfeel and the slightly gritty finish. Substantial and well done base stout, presumably the Mocha, with plenty of roasted malts serving to draw together the various other elements. Smoke was understated, cherry a bit more pronounced to taste, and a nice bitter finish. Excellent.
