This one has been sitting in my cellar for the better part of six months, and after drinking it, I have to ask myself why I waited so damn long to try it. This was part of merc4’s first package to me. Very malty with an awesome mix of coffee and roasted barley. Some chocolate notes as well. There is also a nice hop profile, which was odd for a coffee stout, but very welcomed. The coffee wasn’t as strong as in a Bells, but played a nice role overall. Low on the alcohol, which makes it very drinkable.

rating this the day after from a stout tasting: 12oz bottle. near black pour with a spare light brown head. light molasses, caramel and chocolate aroma. taste followed suit. palate adjectives - oily, mineral, lively, metallic... but in a good way as I remember it.

Poured a dark black with a one finger brown head. The head disappeared quickly, but laced very well. Aroma is of roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is heavy roasted malt. The coffee flavor is drowned out by just a little too much malt. Good beer that could have been great.

I feel like the boys at Highland tried to carry this beer a little too far. It’s on the verge of being a great stout, but they must have added an extra scoop or two of grains. The result is a full-bodied beer with, sadly, a slightly chalky undertaste.

12oz via trade with GAManiac. Pours black with 1 finger tan head. Nose is very chocolatey. Taste is very mocha with a decent amount of coffee and chocolate and some bitterness presumably from the hops.

The best North Carolina brewed stout. Black pour, smells, tastes like it says. Excellent! Very drinkable.

Awesome low Abv. Stout. Great flavors of coffee, malt, and mocha. Easily the best stout I have had under 8% abv.
