hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 3, 2008 12oz bottle acquired in trade with daknole (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, coffee, caramel, and malted milk balls. Tastes of coffee, roast, and chocolate. maugus4ever (121), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jun 30, 2008 Very dark with great coffee and chocolate flavors. Robust with a good roasted flavor. Enough hops to keep it interesting. Great stout! jhliesen (403), West Melbourne, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bomber--Pours a solid black with a large tan head that leaves lacing throughout the drink. A strong roasted malt and coffee aroma dominateds. The taste has the roasted coffee taste with some bitter chocolate. I’m not a coffee, but if this is what espresso tastes like, I could change my mind. Asheville Wine 2.89 bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 25, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, lactose, marshmallow, and roastiness. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, nuts, and chocolate. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 23, 2008 First time sampling this in quite a while, and it is better than I remember. A big black pour with a LOT of fizz in it, so much that it’s surprising, bordering on distracting for a stout. No matter. It’s a heavily roasted American stout, with a powerful hop presence to keep things from getting soupy. Nice espresso characteristics in the fore and a bit of bitter chocolate in the finish. While there’s not a terrific amount of complexity, it’s still mighty fine (and I look forward to the imperial version later this year - but dudes, c’mon, keep Tasgall in the mix). GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 22, 2008 Pours black with mahogany tints around the edges when held up to the light. The tan head was big and fluffy but dissipated very quickly to a few wisps on the surface leaving a bit of delicate lacing. Aroma is roasted malts and a hint of coffee with dark fruits and chocolate. Taste is also dominated by the roasted sweet malts but the coffee is a little more evident than in the aroma. The finish is slightly bitter with bakers chocolate, espresso and some hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly creamy. This is not an exceptionally complex stout but is extremely tasty and drinkable. Highly recommended as an example of an American stout. sallad (110), USA Jun 14, 2008 Opaque with crimson touches at the edge of the glass, pillowy deep tan head. Nice burnt aroma with milky sweetness and caramel, a touch of perfumed alcohol. Round, full flavors of sweet chocolate malt followed by a surprising spicy hop note, then finishes somewhat dry with bakers chocolate and espresso. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jun 13, 2008 Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting: Pours a dark brown with a fluffy white head. Aroma is unsurprisingly roasted chocolate malts and burnt coffee. Some dark fruit. Extremely dry aftertaste. This is great for those who love really dry stouts, like myself.
