Feb 16, 2008 Bottle, thanks to alexanderj. Black pour with some brown head. Aroma is a little meaty, roasted malt, some dark chocolate. Flavor is similar, kind of like a brown ale, some caramel malt, but more roasted. Palate is not good.

Feb 16, 2008 Bottle of the 2007 vintage; poured a black color with a small tan head. Aroma was pretty good; chocolate covered caramel and roasted malt. Flavor wasn’t quite as good. Palate was not too great. Some good caramel.

Feb 12, 2008 Black body with a small tan head. Chocolate and coffee nose with light toffee and a touch of dark fruit. The flavor is lightly sweet with lots of roast, coffee, chocolate and caramel. Medium body is thin with moderate carbonation and a slightly chalky finish.

Feb 10, 2008 12oz Bottle Pours almost black topped with a nice tan head. A nice aroma of ligth roast coffee with a touch of chocolate. Tast of light coffee some nice bitter dark chocolate. This was a pretty good brew.

Feb 5, 2008 Tap at the brewery. Similar to their oatmeal porter, but there is definitely a coffee note to this one. Chocolaty flavor and coffee overtones. Not much on the hops, but what can you expect from a Stout.

Black with creamy tan head and good lacing. Smells of warm mocha or like the inside of a Starbucks. More chocolate than coffee by far. Taste is decent but just not very special or too much above average. Palate is so watery and thin and uneventful. I want more depth and richness and creaminess. Even has a watery aftertaste.

Jan 31, 2008 Dark brown in color that allows almost no light to penetrate. 1 finger width of tan head with light retention and moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roasted coffee and roasted grain bitterness. The flavor starts off with a fairly assertive grain bitterness that picks up the roasted coffee flavor over time. Bittersweet baking chocolate midway through that leads to a dry, powdery bitter finish. The body has a nice, smooth, feel with just a light touch of chewiness to it. Moderate carbonation. Another quality Highland brew that delivers good flavor in a < 6.0%abv package.
