Aroma is a little meaty, roasted malt, some dark chocolate. Flavor is similar, kind of like a brown ale, some caramel malt, but more roasted. Palate is not good. alexanderj (2227), Chino Hills, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2008 Tap at the brewery. Similar to their oatmeal porter, but there is definitely a coffee note to this one. Chocolaty flavor and coffee overtones. Not much on the hops, but what can you expect from a Stout. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Black with creamy tan head and good lacing. Smells of warm mocha or like the inside of a Starbucks. More chocolate than coffee by far. Taste is decent but just not very special or too much above average. Palate is so watery and thin and uneventful. I want more depth and richness and creaminess. Even has a watery aftertaste. jasonm (22), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2008 Dark brown in color that allows almost no light to penetrate. 1 finger width of tan head with light retention and moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roasted coffee and roasted grain bitterness. The flavor starts off with a fairly assertive grain bitterness that picks up the roasted coffee flavor over time. Bittersweet baking chocolate midway through that leads to a dry, powdery bitter finish. The body has a nice, smooth, feel with just a light touch of chewiness to it. Moderate carbonation. Another quality Highland brew that delivers good flavor in a < 6.0%abv package.
