MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours black with a thin tan head. Roasted chocolate, malt, and coffee. Light smoke as well. Just enough body for this style to make me happy. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Sep 25, 2009 The deepest brown hues to a black pour, with a tan head that leaves generous lace. The nose is of roasts, some earthy tones, and chocolate bark. The flavors are indeed robust, with coffee, roasted malt, bitter and dark chocolates, some hints at dark esters and light smoke. The finish is nice and bitter, a tad astringent but welcome. Bold mouthfeel and complex texture, this is a nice stout from Highland. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 18, 2009 (Sample Date: 9/5/2009 Source:Other) Roast and chocolate with hint of wood in aroma. Almost black with fluffy tan head. Flavor has roast chocolate and a slight roast astringency. Finish is medium with high residual bitterness. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Sep 6, 2009 Bottle thanks to nick for sharing. Black pour with light tan head. Tastes more light a porter, a light chocolate porter. Aroma is of roasted malt, slight chocolate. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Aug 31, 2009 Bottle thanks to Steph’s parents. Opaque black with brown/tan head. Sweeter fruit aroma with cherry, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is coffee, sweeter fruit, chocolate roast, like coffee grounds, dry, nice Medium to light body with light carbonation. Nice and dry. JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Aug 27, 2009 Dark brown-black pour. The nose is quite lovely. A touch of light cocoa and mocha. Softly sweet with a bit of chewy light sweetness. Softly sweet with a kiss of cheap coffee flavour on the back. Less coffee than I would have imagined, but it’s there. It’s not bad. Roast aroma. Small tan head. Black smooth and slightly rich on the palate with a crisp and slightly bitter coffee roast finish. juiceisloose (644), Windermere, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2009 Pours a deep black color topped by a good sized, foamy tan head that settles quickly to a think film. The aroma is heavy on the roasted grains, malts, and coffee. A touch of dry cocoa comes through as well. The flavor follows suit with the roasted barley, grains, and coffee dominating the taste. Cocoa powder and caramel malt are found in the background to go with a touch of earthy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with god carbonation and a lengthy roasty finish. Not a bad stout, but nothing too crazy going on here.
