Gez (44), Ringgold, Georgia, USA Jul 1, 2007 Jet black color. Thick foamy brown head. Chocolate malt aroma. Slightly bitter taste of roasted peanuts and coffee. Bitter chocolate and coffee after taste. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 7, 2007 Purchased at Green’s (Buford Hwy location).
Appearance: Has a typical black-brown stout coloring with a thin biege-colored head.
Smell: A slightly sweet, candied aroma with a touch of roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Very inviting!
Taste: Chocolate-coated malt flavors abound, flanked by the rich coffee essence. Coffee au lait. A slight suggestion of hops provide a bit of balance to this great brew.
Mouthfeel: Luxurious on the tongue, with a modest amount of carbonation. Very creamy. This beer is a joy to experience from start to finish. Exactly medium-bodied with out leaning towards being heavy or thin. Perfect.
Drinkability: This beer’s well-balanced character, makes it a true session stout. A great choice any time of day, any time of year. Delish!
Find some. Treasure it. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA May 2, 2007 Bottle from Turdferguson. Wonderful mocha cappuccino aroma. Black body with a big, fast-dissipating head. Medium palate. Lots of wood flavor, coffee and dry, bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Apr 27, 2007 Lots of dark chocolate in the aroma. Pours black with a medium tan head. Roasted malt and some big chocolate in the flavor. Full mouthfeel and a big roasted finish. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2007 On tap @ Barley’s. Pours black with a lasting medium off white head. Significant lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate with light roasted notes. This was a very easy drinking beer. Flavor had the same dark chocolate as the aroma but included a sweetness not expected from the nose. There is roasted coffee that appears more during the finish. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this beer. brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Apr 15, 2007 Chocolate hits you first thing in the nose, quickly overtaken by roasty coffee beans ,distinct, but not overpowering, taste is a great blend of the chocolate and coffee, but not exactly mochaish, coffee and hop bitterness in the finish, light medium body at first lightens up even more as you go. Very nicely balanced, almost a session type of brew gottalottaibu (242), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Apr 12, 2007 pours jet black with nice creamy head with good lasting power. aroma is of chocolate and coffee. sweet smooth flavor. roasted espresso stood out the most to me with a semi bitter aftertaste. light to medium palate. very drinkable and enjoyable. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2007 Highland Black Mocha Stout is very dark brown in color and has dense, foamy tan head that lasts pretty well. The remaining crown leaves a nice vine-like lacing pattern on the glass. The aroma is very dark chocolate with some roastiness as well. Semi-sweet choclolate and coffee are blended together in the robust, roasty, and well crafted flavor. There is a lingering coffee flavor in the finish. This beer has a medium-full body with very fine carbonation. It is actually a bit lighter the palate than one would expect a beer with this kind of flavor to have. The result is a smooth and very drinkable beer.
