Highland Black Mocha Stout

Love this stuff. Huge roasted chocolate flavor, my favorite of Highland’s offerings right next to the Oatmeal Porter. Reccomended.

Bottle. Chocolate and burnt wood malt aroma. Opaque black-brown color with large tan head and nice lacing. Nice chocolate and coffee malt flavor - extremely smooth with light hops and charcoal finish. A great beer - a stout I could drink anytime.

i didn’t use to be a stout fan but i find myself becoming more enamored with them. can very much taste the chocolate and of course, bitter coffee. this was the 2nd best beer of the night.

Bottle at Taco Mac, TN. Pours black color with a large frothy light brown head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate roasted chocolate malty aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Medium sweet roasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a solid drinkable beer.

12oz bottle via trade with decaturstevo. Aroma: Lots of roasted malt with notes of smoke, cocoa, coffee, cream, and some very light hops lingering in the background. A touch of dark fruit as it warms. Appearance: Dark brown in color with small brown highlights. Dark beige head was full and foamy with good retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Flavor follows the aroma. Lots of dark malt, coffee, cocoa, smoke, dark fruits, pine and earth hops into the finish. Medium bitterness. Some lingering roast after the finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Nice beer. Good flavors and a low enough ABV to make this a good session beer.

Dark brown like cola. Good roasted malt,coco,and light carmel flavors.Medium body with slight fizzy carbonation. Some chalk in the finish but mainly good bitter chocolate.

bottle, from Raleigh Whole Foods. Ok to good aroma. Cocoa, salt, peat, bread, cardboard little banana. Dark orangy brown color, small head that faded quickly. minor lace. Bittersweet flavor. It loses the salty, peaty I was getting in the aroma. Chocolate, coffee for the most part. Little cardboard too. Medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Nice, easy to drink stout. Like to find on tap somewhere to compare. Maybe what I called cardboard is what other I see call wood. Got a little bored as I was getting toward the end of it.

A half inch dark tan head is well retained, blotchy. Totally opaque very dark brown/chestnut in color. Creamy looking consistency that seems to pull what would be lacing down toward the body with each tilt of the glass. Aroma is at first roasted malt, a very nice level/concentration. Chocolate follows, semi-sweet. Then wood, some cream. All very mellow, perhaps subdued by earthy hops that don’t poke out, rather rumble around under the surface. The nose ends sharply with a sensation of brewing coffee. Everything in the flavor seems so cohesively blended. This is a far cry from what was produced in the basement at Barley’s. Coffee is a bit heavier than the chocolate in a really well rounded flavor, substantiated by more earthiness and roasted malts. Palate is creamy, thick, but not too much so. Off dry finish, surprisingly brief. Interesting woody and tannic notes left behind. Another impressive offering from this tremendous brewery.
