chriso (4683), London, Greater London, England Dec 29, 2006 Sampled at the brewery, July 2006. Not a lot of notes on this as drinking it while walking round the brewery is not ideal for tasting. Very dark brown, not quite black. Plenty of flavour here. Creamy coffee, milk chocolate, burnt malt and, in the US style, a fair amount of tangy citric background hop. Not the biggest stout around, but pretty damn decent.
emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Dec 28, 2006 Appearance: dark with minimal light penetration. Head: thin and tan. Aroma: roasted, sweet, chocolate, caramel, hop citrus. Flavor: roasted, sweet, some hop flavor, no bitterness, well balanced. Palate: very smooth and full. Finish: very smooth pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Dec 22, 2006 Black body, tan head. Very roasty aroma, black patent malt with coffee. Taste like a more refined version of Bells Java Stout. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 22, 2006 black body with a creamy light brown head.mocha.coffe,chocolate,and roasted malts are the sum of these parts.palate has a milky finish. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 22, 2006 Bottle from Ross; nose of coffee, caramel, and chocolate; Opaque black with a medium, glass-lacing tan head; thbin body with a flavor of coffee and a little hops. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Dec 17, 2006 (bottle) Poured into pint glass, very dark, I couldn’t see thru it when I held it to the light. It poured a dark tan head to the top of the glass. A moderate coffee smell. Taste of coffee, but not as strong as the smell insinuates. Had a smooth milky flavor with some chocolate tones. Overall a very good drink. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Dec 16, 2006 22 oz bottle. Pours deep black with ruby edges and a thick beige head. Prominently roasty, caramel nose. Flavor has notes of roasted malt, earth/dirt, mocha, toffee, coffee and ends with a slight burnt tinge. Moderately sweet/bitter. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Even though it doesn’t really stand out, it’s tasty and quite satisfying. ThorsHammer (1), USA does not count Nov 26, 2006 While not pitch black, this beer is rather opaque. Poured a two-and-a-half finger head. The head dissipated in a moderate amount of time, only leaving a small amount of delicate lacing. The smell is of chocolate and coffee -- definitely inviting. Roasted malt comes through in the taste as well. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, not overly heavy. This beer is exceptionally drinkable, which is not a bad thing. I rarely drink more than a beer or two, but I might make an exception for the Black Mocha Stout. IMO, this beer compares favorably to most American Stouts.
