Prominently roasty, caramel nose. Flavor has notes of roasted malt, earth/dirt, mocha, toffee, coffee and ends with a slight burnt tinge. Moderately sweet/bitter. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Even though it doesn’t really stand out, it’s tasty and quite satisfying. Poured a two-and-a-half finger head. The head dissipated in a moderate amount of time, only leaving a small amount of delicate lacing. The smell is of chocolate and coffee -- definitely inviting. Roasted malt comes through in the taste as well. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, not overly heavy. This beer is exceptionally drinkable, which is not a bad thing. I rarely drink more than a beer or two, but I might make an exception for the Black Mocha Stout. IMO, this beer compares favorably to most American Stouts. molassesfan (201), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2006 two finget head on a solid jet black thickness of a pour. the head is really foamy, and the lacing is quite intricate. there’s an almost pool water aroma mixed with a milky way - chocolate and caramel combo. the flavour is rich with chewy plums and a faint but lingering dry mocha. it satisfies the palate, as it’s not watered down at all, as some others in this category have been. i recommend this beer, if nothing else. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Pours a deep dark brown/almost black with fucia edges and a small tan head. Nose is mostly plums and coffee with some chocolate. Taste is the same with some soy, some hops and and some saltiness in the finish. Thin body. Not bad but could use more body and more mocha flavor.... buerckholtz (33), asheville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Brewed in Asheville NC, not in Fredrick MD....(thier contract brewery) Pours dark brown to black with small white head. Aromas of roasted malt, some coffee notes and dried fruits and some hops. Flavor is more hoppy than aroma lets on......firm malt and bitterness balances this beer. Flavors meld well leading into a fairly dry finish making this beer non cloying. Lacks a little complexty and freshness in my opinion. Good beer though. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Black as black pour. Mocha colored swirls form on the top of the beer after the giant, pluming head settles. Soft, roasty malts fill the nose - no bitterness or astingency here. Sweet chocolate and woody vanilla fill the voids between. The body is vibrant, with velvetty carbonation leading the way. What follows is a great mix of cocoa, nuts and bittersweet chocolate. Medium body makes for easy drinking. Enough said, I like this stout. CapFlu (3481), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
