Highland’s most robust beer, having a very malty body with a large, roasted chocolate flavor. It is black in color with a very clean finish and a moderate hop flavor.

Bottle into shaker. Pours black as night with appropriate tan head, leaving sparse lacing behind. Dark roast coffee, chocolate malt, and oatmeal aroma. Heavy sweet, medium bitterness, lightly sour, lightly salty. Big body, thick chewy beer. Soft carbonation, sweet lingering finish. Nice after dinner sipper by the fire.

Bottle. Black color. Aroma of sweet chocolate and vanilla, with roasted matls. A good medium bodied (at least). Creamy texture. Taste is about the same with some additional roasted malts and cocoa malts. Some dryness and bitter at end. A solid beer.

Bottle into pint glass, deep dark brown with dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke, light coffee and chocolate milk. Taste adds notes of bread, char, bitter dark chocolate, slight nuttiness and earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation, creamy, rich with sweet roasty finish. Had this on a camping trip so my review may be off a little since all beer tastes better while camping. Good stout. Smooth finish but overall a little weak. Great chocolate taste without being overpowering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the last local swap - thanks! Pours deep ruby black with a small brown creamy head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light, with notes of ashtray, roast, and cocoa powder. Flavor is impressive, creamy, lactose, roasty, tobacco, coffee, chocolate. Light plus sweet and light bitter. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2013 This one pours deep dark brown and clear. Head is semi brown and forms a thin ring about the edges. Nose is chocolate, coffee, and some sweet doughy bread aromas underneath the roast. Flavor is coffee, bread, fruity cherry chocolates, touch of bright coffee and some roast astringency in the finish. Medium full chewy body. Pretty nice brew. I’m editing this because I had it at home from a bottle and let it warm up in the glass. When this procedure was performed, this beer really came out and got fantastic. Damn I like it and damn I wish bars didn’t serve such cold beer.
