MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2009 Bottle thanks to durhambeer! Shimmering sepia with a decent beige head. Nose of chocolate and oat, minor roast. Robust flavor, lots of roast bitterness with some ashy toast, also some more chocolate. A little thin and short, rather creamy and coating. I rather like it, despite the simple and straightforward approach.
kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of onenote81. Pours a dark brown to black color with one finger tan head that settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and roasty with notes of chocolate, brown sugar, light roasted coffee, caramel, candy sugar, ripe dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and roasty with notes of chocolate, ripe dark fruit, brown sugar, cream, some notes of coffee grounds. Generally medium body with a pleasing roasted malt finish. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2009 Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD’s girlfriend, Cyn, for sharing! Pours a deep dark brown with a tan ring. Aroma of chocolate, malt, coffee, sugar, and dried fruits. Taste is crisp, of burnt toasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and berries. Lingering burnt and chocolate flavors. Nice. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Jun 19, 2009 Vanilla, coffee, roast. Light to medium body. Enjoyable finish. Good stout all around. chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 8, 2009 Black pour with tan head. Aroma of chocolate and some coffee, flavor is very chocolate and coffee with some bitter notes. This would be good with ice cream. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 7, 2009 Bottle pours pitch black with light tan head. Aroma is chocolate with some roasted malt. Lighter mouthfeel than I like for the style. Flavor is chocolate, roast, coffee, a touch of oxidation has begun to set in, and finishes chocolatey. Nice brew. I enjoyed it with my Tiramisu dessert. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Jun 5, 2009 All malt flavor. Chocolate roasted malts dominate everything else. Pretty full bodied, light carbonation. Well balanced flavor - starts out a little sweet then finishes just right. Not a lot of complexity though, just chocolate malts. Some metallic taste reduces the overall enjoyment of the beer. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA May 29, 2009 Black pour with a small tan head. Chocolate and coffee in the nose. Dark roasted malt, peat smoke, and earthy hops in the flavor department. Rich and complex with a slightly bittersweet finish. Nice.
