| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 11, 2009 12oz bottle from total wine in greenville. pours a very dark brown with a thin, tan head and a solid ring of lace. aroma is mild but very nice with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, light roasted malts with a hint of smoke and the slightest note of dark fruit. flavor is very good as well with sweet dark chocolate, burnt coffee, peat, and roasted nuts with a solid, bitter, roasted coffee finish. palate is a bit thin for my liking and has a distracting metallic tinge but is smooth and drinkable. overall, a solid stout. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Bottle thanks to durhambeer! Shimmering sepia with a decent beige head. Nose of chocolate and oat, minor roast. Robust flavor, lots of roast bitterness with some ashy toast, also some more chocolate. A little thin and short, rather creamy and coating. I rather like it, despite the simple and straightforward approach.

Lighter mouthfeel than I like for the style. Flavor is chocolate, roast, coffee, a touch of oxidation has begun to set in, and finishes chocolatey. Nice brew. I enjoyed it with my Tiramisu dessert.
