COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Highland’s most robust beer, having a very malty body with a large, roasted chocolate flavor. It is black in color with a very clean finish and a moderate hop flavor.

Dark brown color, nice carbonation, and nice little tannish creamy head. Chocolate notes in the smell with nice roasted grains to back it up. Taste is chocolate and coffee along with roasted qualities.

A solid yet drinkable stout, smoother than many others. Pours a thick black color with a light tan head. Heavily roasted and mocha coffee aromas, as to be expected. Flavor is dark malt, coffee bean, some mild bitter hops, and only a small bit of chocolate. Emphasis is on the coffee notes, which is what I expected but would have appreciated a more balanced complexity with the sweeter chocolate notes. Hops could be more assertive. Regardless, I think this is still a good reliable stout from a reliable brewery.

Bottle poured into glass. Pours coffee black with a tannish head. Aroma is malty and thick. Flavor is almost like a black coffee,a little bitter, but not thick, refreshing and light, enjoyable.

Strong smoke on the nose, palate is a little thin. Chocolate and hazelnut at first, and finishes with a nice roasted malt.

Black pour with a beige head. Watery malt aromas with subtle notes of coffee. Very mild flavor and thin body. Nowhere near the flavor profile I was expecting. Weak.

Highland Black Mocha Stout has a very thick, beige head, a black (with brown highlights) appearance, and some web lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, very dark roasted (but, not burned) barley malt, coffee, cream, and chocolate. Taste is of those elements, with a noticeable bitterness, probably coming from the char. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Highland Black Mocha Stout finishes rich and delicious and semi-wet.

Bottle split during a blind stout/porter tasting with Jenny. Thin black pour. Some dark fruit and coffee notes. Too thin. Weak finish. This came in last out of 4.

Bottle: Deep brown, black center with light ruby at the edges; light-tan head leaving medium lacing behind. Aroma is creamy & sweet baker’s chocolate, almost seems lactose was used here (don’t think it is, though). Light coffee bean, roasted barley, & some bittersweet cocoa dust rounding things out in the back-end. Coffee stronger on the palate, combating mocha for the top spot in my sensory profile. A little mid-palate hopiness; dry, leafy, herbal, a bit ashy. Molds well with the roast. A little astringent in the finish, thin mouth feel that doesn’t bode well. Needs more body. Hint of roasted & charred malt in the aftertaste with a touch of cocoa & cream. Needs more body, more robustness, more creaminess. Otherwise, a decent beer, but nothing to write home about.
