Body starts thin but builds as it warms - fairly lifeless. Toffee and chocolate in the flavor, some hops of the pineapple strain, with some dough and tongue coating malts. A touch of some unpleasant sourness knocks this down a few pegs. Actually a bit disappointing. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2009 Acquired via in person trade at GTMW with zizzybalubba. Thanks! Pour is pretty dark with a vanilla colored head. Somewhat burnt aroma of nut, burnt popcorn, vanilla, and mild chocolate. Flavors of coffee roast, vanilla, peated smoke. Fairly complex flavors. A decent beer, these days it takes quite a bit from a beer to wow me. This comes up a bit short, but the effort is commendable. CanIHave4Beers (930), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Pours a deep brown, almost black color with a nice rocky tan head. Plenty of raw chocolate and coffee in the aroma, nicely pungent! Flavor is really good, very bitter with espresso and dark chocolate all over the place, just a little bit of nuttiness, some raisin and some earthy hops. Tasty stuff indeed!
