Commercial Description:
Highland's most robust beer, having a very malty body with a large, roasted chocolate flavor. It is black in color with a very clean finish and a moderate hop flavor.

Dark brown but showing transparency bordering on rust at the edges. Head is minute and fades quickly. Some sediment floats wonderously about. What a nose on this beauty. Liquid dark chocolate with sweet mocha aromas laced with vanilla and caramel. Nutty aromatics and some butterscotch. Black berry and black cherry aromas as well. Damn fine smelling beer and hard to drink as it smells so divine. Very fine low ABV stout. Not as impressive as the nose would suggest, but impressive nonetheless. Main knock I have is the mouthfeel. Which seems to be way to thin and watery and leaves nay a finish. Flavors are much like the nose without the amount of melted caramel. Mocha, vanilla, dark chocolate, blueberry, blackberry, mollasses, black cherry, caramel with a cream brulee wondering. Some roasty notes as well. Could have been higher on drinkability if not for the lackluster mouthfeel.

Bottle on 09/05/2009. Dark black body with a large frothy dark tan head. Sweet roast and chocolate aroma with some light coffee hints. Sweet roast, chocolate, coffee and caramel flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Pours a very dark brown color with a big, foamy, tan head and thick lacing. Smells immediately like chocolate pudding followed by strong notes of coffee, dry roasted nuts, and black patent malt. Medium bodied, dry with a solid bitterness and a thoughtful aftertaste. Tangy chocolate flavor mixed with dark fruits and plenty of dry roast. Sugary cocoa and a firm green hop flavor round out this tasty stout. Big props to bluesandbarbq for sending this my way, I enjoyed every drop of it.

bottle poured a dark inky black in color with a half inch hefty tan head. aroma has roasted chocolate malt, molasses, and light coffee. mouth feel is not too big and the carbonation is soft but assertive. flavor picks up some bitterness, roasted malt, chocolate, and some light minerals. overall a nice drinker.

Bottle at Spanky’s in Chapel Hill. Nice aroma of coffee/mocha, malts, and some nuts (couldn’t identify). Taste was about the same but with a little hop touch. Dry finish with little left on the palate worth mentioning. Still enjoyable.

Pours a thick black with a grey head. It has a mild, burnt aroma. This beer tastes of dark, burnt malt with only a slight bit of bitter hops.

This is definitely a roasted malt bomb. It assaults the senses, but in all the ways the name implies. This one is definitely not messing around. Tons of chocolate and coffee in the aroma and taste as well. Hops are present, but play a supporting role as they should. This beer envelops the palate with its oily, full bodied, bittersweet goodness. The finish is a bit dry and accompanied by lots of roasted malt and bitterness. An awesome brew.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Brent, man I loved the imperial version of this so much. Pours a deep brown color with a medium beige head. The aroma is coffee, roasted malts, nutty. The flavor is dry, roasted coffee and malts, a light fruity goodness comes through, and suggests just how good the imperial version will be. Still, very nice.
