3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black Mocha Stout is an opaque black brew with a very fine head of small tan bubbles. Nose is dark chocolate syrup with a hint of roasted coffee. Taste is initially dry with good roasted malts that has a touch of sweetness and creaminess in the mid to late swallow with a decent amount of good roasted bitter on the finish. body is silky.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle split during a blind stout/porter tasting with Jenny. Thin black pour. Some dark fruit and coffee notes. Too thin. Weak finish. This came in last out of 4.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: Deep brown, black center with light ruby at the edges; light-tan head leaving medium lacing behind. Aroma is creamy & sweet baker’s chocolate, almost seems lactose was used here (don’t think it is, though). Light coffee bean, roasted barley, & some bittersweet cocoa dust rounding things out in the back-end. Coffee stronger on the palate, combating mocha for the top spot in my sensory profile. A little mid-palate hopiness; dry, leafy, herbal, a bit ashy. Molds well with the roast. A little astringent in the finish, thin mouth feel that doesn’t bode well. Needs more body. Hint of roasted & charred malt in the aftertaste with a touch of cocoa & cream. Needs more body, more robustness, more creaminess. Otherwise, a decent beer, but nothing to write home about.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sampled at the brewery. It poured an opaque brownish/black color with a tan head. The aroma was of coffee and dark chocolate. The taste was similar with a slightly bitter finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle on 5/11/14. Pours jet black with a tight off white head that lingers. Moderate lacing. Aroma is satisfying, chocolate, coffee, sweet roasted malt. Taste is light, bitter chocolate, ever so slightly sour/metallic, finishes with a very nice chocolate and coffee bitter finish and I’m left with a pleasant coffee and chocolate sweetness. Solid.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a nearly opaque, very dark brown, with glints of cola brown around the bottom edges of the glass. Large, bumpy, and sudsy brown-taupe head forms and lingers. Smoky and salty pretzel nose. Notes of chocolate and coffee. Some steak and A-1 sauce come through as well. Smooth, creamy and mildly thick mouthfeel. Some dark fruit, steak and A-1, and smoky flavors. Chocolate abs coffee. Very nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle filled on 2/4/14 poured into shaker. Opaque near-black color with a finger of fizzy brown head that’s completely gone after a few minutes. Deep roasty coffee, chocolate and maple aroma. Flavor has slight malt sweetness up front with a dry, burnt bitter finish. Nothing remarkable here. Just a solid stout.
