Flavor is yeasty up front with a complex bitter finish. Sure it’s not a tour-de-force in flavor, but bitter’s aren’t supposed to be.

Bottle. Solid bitter from Highland. Pours bronze with a small fading off white head. Nose is earthy, light metal, soil, English hops. Flavor is similar--earthy and grassy, light bittersweet finish. Like the lower gravity beers Highland is trending towards.

Originally reviewed: 4/8/09. Pours a very pale yellow with a thin whispy white head on top. This disappears as quickly as it came. Some thin spottly lacing sticks along the glass edge. Nothing special. I was surprised at how pale this was though. I was expecting it to be darker for some reason. Smells grassy and grainy. Smells like a sourdough. Some slight lemon zest in there as well.
Mouthfeel was a little on the thin side, but I didn’t mind it. Flavor was of a tad sour grass mixed with a nice bitter bite. The bitterness is not overpowering in any way, it’s just there enough. Finishes a little citrusy as well.
I enjoyed this drink, and could see myself having a pint or two at a time.

TN stairwell special! Fairly typical looking pour with a small white head. Fairly malty aroma but a touch of hops too; pleasant. Flavor is actually a little thin overall. Not offensive, just not much there. Okay.

From notes:
Pours a hazy golden amber/orange color with a thin foamy white head that quickly settles into a thin lasting ring. Minimal spots of lacing left behind.
The aroma is kind of bland with a balance of earthy pine hops and pale, biscuit malt.
Medium bodied with a nice balance of earthy, bitter hops and pale malt notes. Hints of pine and subtle citrus as well as slight earthy, grass notes. Crisp, clean and easy drinking with a slightly dry finish.

The aroma is like an adjunct laden macro with only a strange yeast separating it from a lager. The appearance is gold with a two finger head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall this is a dud.

I found this beer to be surprisingly refreshing after tasting it immediately after the pour. A reasonable head, bread, cereal, floral on the nose. a hazy golden ale.I’m a big fan of ESBs and I’d characterize this as a medium bitterness, bitter. enjoyable
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 merlin48 (656) - Jenkins, Kentucky, USA - APR 11, 2010
Bottle pours a slightly hazed, pale golden body with a small white head that leaves just a trace of spotty lace. Aroma is faint, with hints of herbal hops and biscuity malt. Taste is dry and herbal, a bit grassy. Crackery pale malt offers little in the way of sweetness. Drinkable, but not very impressive.
