3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottles. One of the most boring beer styles out there and everybody and their brother feels like they need to brew one. It’s getting colder which already sucks and then you have to give us this shitty malty beer to make us feel better. This particular marzen aint bad by any means, it just happens to be the object for my rant on marzens. Sorry Highland.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Yet another marzen? Alas, yes for the most part. Pour fails to leave much of any impression at all, and the nose is malty and grainy. Prickly mouthfeel, and slightly more hops here than one often encounters in the style, which I guess is a plus. Still boring.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2013 12 oz bottle, 2012 vintage, served in a Highland Brewing pint glass.
A wee bit different, with a slight darker orange-gold body and more flavor from noble hops than a typical Marzen. Crystal clear with a proper looking level of carbonation. The medium-high carbonation is well-chosen, and gives this beer a light crispness. The smallish off-white head has limited duration and leaves little lacing. The aroma features bready German malts with some spicy and herbal notes from the hops. The hops come more to the fore in the near semi-dry and lasting finish.
O - refreshing and very good for style. Would be nice with a large Bavarian pretzel.

From bottle. Pours amber in color with small head. Tons of sweetness. A little bread, hops and spice but way to much sweetness.

Wow, terrible. Not completely awful, but I would not recommend this to anyone. Doesn’t taste like a marzen, more like a pale ale. Bland and boring.

Bright, light cherry gold. Clear. Rich red ale flavors, thought this was an alt or something, but hard to place as a marzen. Sweet, but not too sweet, apricot flavors. Light body, creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable. On tap, Liberty Taproom, Columbia.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at World Of Beer in Land O Lakes. Clear amber pour with a foamy white head. Roasted caramel malt aroma and flavor with some lingering spices. Decent but far from exciting.

Amber brown pour with a small white head. Aroma is of bisquit and toffee. Medium bodied, nice creamy mouthfeel. More bisquit/bread malt flavors with a bit of sweetness and a slighly cloying aftertaste. Pretty good. Nice body initially but it seems a bit thinner once warmed.
