2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle, filled 8/20/13. Clear orange color. Thin off-white head. Leaves some lace. Medium-plus body. Crisp carbonation. Toasty, caramel malts. Light lemon. Moderate bitter, light sweet. Was solid as I swigged it in between bites of sandwich, but on it’s own, it suffers.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at the Knoxville 2008 Brewer’s Jam. Orangey copper,. Simple grainy and caramelly aroma. Clean and crisp, with some sweet caramel notes up front and a mildly crisp hop bite. Tasty session brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks OldGrowth. Looks like tea with lots o honey in it. Light orange brown, clear, with almost no head. Aroma is spice with cinnamon, applesauce, nutty malt, and floral hop. An interesting Oktoerfest. It is musty and spicy with a bitterness that comes in waves after the sip. Flavor also offers spices and a nice hop bite. Pepper, nutmeg, nuts, cinnamon, wood, and apple are all tasted. Finish is sweet. Feel is effervescent. A nice beer with a a variety of flavors and a bit of attitude.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-amber body with a thin, white head and a few steady streams of carbonation.
Smell: Soft, light nose with only mild notes of bread malts, caramel, apple, florals, and spice.
Taste: Mild-tasting mixture of crisp grains and bread with a lightly sweet-tasting touch of caramel. Spicy, floral-toned Noble hops with a moderate amount of bitterness. Small hint of fresh orchard fruit arrives late. Dry, lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation providing for a carbonic bite.
Drinkability: It’s an adequate, American-born Oktoberfest. Clawhammer will do in an O-fest pinch, but there’re definitely better to have out there.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is malty and a bit nutty with yeast and grassy hops. The appearance is amber gold with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter malty finish. The palate is smooth. Overall this is a decent beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Orange amber color, tall white head. Aroma of toasted malts, lager yeast, some grassy hops. Sweet caramel malt taste, some straw. Reminds me more of a Vienna style than a Märzen. I would drink this beer all day long as the leaves change to Fall.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Yet another marzen? Alas, yes for the most part. Pour fails to leave much of any impression at all, and the nose is malty and grainy. Prickly mouthfeel, and slightly more hops here than one often encounters in the style, which I guess is a plus. Still boring.

Bottles. One of the most boring beer styles out there and everybody and their brother feels like they need to brew one. It’s getting colder which already sucks and then you have to give us this shitty malty beer to make us feel better. This particular marzen aint bad by any means, it just happens to be the object for my rant on marzens. Sorry Highland.
