Clawhammer Oktoberfest is a lightly colored, but toasty, rich and full bodied Marzen style lager, brewed with traditional German malt and the finest noble hops. A spicy hop finish and aroma balance out the abundance of malt flavor. Clawhammer means pure high-country enjoyment!

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks solid; a mostly transparent golden orange with foamy eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of mild caramel and very soft hops. Tastes like it smells with some biscuit as well. Average on the palate. A decent no-frills example of the style.

Tallahassee, Fl - Momo’s Pizza - 12 oz bottle. Medium orange pour, light off-white head. Earthy aroma, hint of sweet caramel and ripening vegetables. Flavor has some ripening vegetable essence, some nutty notes, some caramel in the back end. Thick enough mouthfeel. Decent.

Bottle. Translucent dark amber with a tall, frothy tan head. Aroma is caramel, toasted malt, and light spicy hops. Big caramel and sweet malt up front with spicy hops, toffee and toasted malt following. Body is medium and slightly chewy with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Finished with more caramel, bigger toffee presence, spicy hops, toasted malt and dark bread.

Sampled at the Knoxville 2008 Brewer’s Jam. Orangey copper,. Simple grainy and caramelly aroma. Clean and crisp, with some sweet caramel notes up front and a mildly crisp hop bite. Tasty session brew.

Thanks OldGrowth. Looks like tea with lots o honey in it. Light orange brown, clear, with almost no head. Aroma is spice with cinnamon, applesauce, nutty malt, and floral hop. An interesting Oktoerfest. It is musty and spicy with a bitterness that comes in waves after the sip. Flavor also offers spices and a nice hop bite. Pepper, nutmeg, nuts, cinnamon, wood, and apple are all tasted. Finish is sweet. Feel is effervescent. A nice beer with a a variety of flavors and a bit of attitude.

Keg @ Sedona. Medium amber, small head. Flabby, sweet, bready nose. Some brown sugar and buts. Angel food cake. The taste is similarly bready, not particularly clean. Sweet finish. Medium body, light carbonation. Overall, could be reigned in a bit.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-amber body with a thin, white head and a few steady streams of carbonation. Smell: Soft, light nose with only mild notes of bread malts, caramel, apple, florals, and spice. Taste: Mild-tasting mixture of crisp grains and bread with a lightly sweet-tasting touch of caramel. Spicy, floral-toned Noble hops with a moderate amount of bitterness. Small hint of fresh orchard fruit arrives late. Dry, lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation providing for a carbonic bite. Drinkability: It’s an adequate, American-born Oktoberfest. Clawhammer will do in an O-fest pinch, but there’re definitely better to have out there.

Bright, light cherry gold. Clear. Rich red ale flavors, thought this was an alt or something, but hard to place as a marzen. Sweet, but not too sweet, apricot flavors. Light body, creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable. On tap, Liberty Taproom, Columbia.
