COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Clawhammer Oktoberfest is a lightly colored, but toasty, rich and full bodied Marzen style lager, brewed with traditional German malt and the finest noble hops. A spicy hop finish and aroma balance out the abundance of malt flavor. Clawhammer means pure high-country enjoyment!

12 oz bottle. small fizzy tan head (quickly and almost fully dissapated) into copper body. aromas of light caramel, light hops, and some corn (done in a good way). flavor is initially bittersweet and finishes more bitter with a little less sweet. dry texture. long finish duration. lively carbonation. one of the better ones of this style.

2008 Knoxville Brewers’ Jam. Pours orange with white head. The aroma is grain, fruit, and distinct Munich malt. The flavor is toasty with some leaves and light caramel, and a little bit of hay in the finish. Not too shabby.

Sampled at the 2008 Knoxville Brewers’ Jam. Orange in the glass with a thin white ring for a head. Caramel malts in the aroma. The flavor finds a mix of grains and caramel. Medium plus body and sweet upfront with a slight bitter ending.

Thanks OldGrowth. Looks like tea with lots o honey in it. Light orange brown, clear, with almost no head. Aroma is spice with cinnamon, applesauce, nutty malt, and floral hop. An interesting Oktoerfest. It is musty and spicy with a bitterness that comes in waves after the sip. Flavor also offers spices and a nice hop bite. Pepper, nutmeg, nuts, cinnamon, wood, and apple are all tasted. Finish is sweet. Feel is effervescent. A nice beer with a a variety of flavors and a bit of attitude.

Not as huge in the flavor dept, but very creamy and smooth. A solid highland offering, however not in my top tier of Ofests. I do always like to support NC breweries, though, so I’ll probably buy again.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-amber body with a thin, white head and a few steady streams of carbonation. Smell: Soft, light nose with only mild notes of bread malts, caramel, apple, florals, and spice. Taste: Mild-tasting mixture of crisp grains and bread with a lightly sweet-tasting touch of caramel. Spicy, floral-toned Noble hops with a moderate amount of bitterness. Small hint of fresh orchard fruit arrives late. Dry, lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation providing for a carbonic bite. Drinkability: It’s an adequate, American-born Oktoberfest. Clawhammer will do in an O-fest pinch, but there’re definitely better to have out there.

A nice brew from Blue Lou from one of my favorite breweries out of Asheville. Beautiful city, beautiful people, beautiful beer. Pours a clear, bright amber colour with a finger sized head. It’s quick to dissipate but leaves behind a generous amount of lacing. And actually holds pretty nice retention with the foam. Aroma is nice. Soft hops with roasted malts and a little burnt toast. Taste is pleasent, with flavours of fruit and grass and other woodsy things. A pretty tasty beer all around.

Pours orange/amber with a fully receding tan head. Notes of sweet toasted malt, bread dough, crackers, chewy toffee. Medium to full bodied, lightly sweet with soft carbonation.
