Had this last Dec. Pours a light amber clear with a very thin head. Soft caramel malts with herbal and phenolic spices- gingerbread. More ginger root in the flavor with light toffee, sweet caramel malts and some crackery malts- mild bitter finish.

My Bottom Line:
Caramel and vanilla cookies cherish the cherries, delicate roastiness and dessert spiciness which garnish them. This is a valiant spicy ale for sweet teeth.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the clear burgundy.
-Spicy, herbal hoppiness finishes alongside clovey amusement.
-The chosen spices are well integrated.
-Even though it’s on the sweet side of things, it remains a fine winter warmer to accompany a meal.

Bottle.

Pours a deep clear amber. Aroma has hints of hops and spice. The flavor is slighty spicy and sweet with a little hops at the end. Another good brew from Highland.

Pours deep cherry-wood off the tap, reminiscent of a good whiskey. The nose is malty and earthen. Some vegetal flavors mingle with vanilla extract, powdered sugar (like the inside of a bon-bon) and malts. These carry through the finish, and accompany a light bitter with a medium-thin mouthfeel. Decent, but a different brew here. Nice to try, and would have again.

Pours to a glowing brassy body with a thin tan head. The aroma is spicy hops and strawberry perfume. The flavor is bitter strawberry perfumey hops. Fruitcake. The palate is average.

Got this big ’ol bottle from Jimbowood sometime last year, I believe. Ever been inside the tinderbox? It’s a cigar shop that is found in malls throughout the country. Well, this stuff smells just like the inside of a tinderbox. Vanilla, malt and tobacco are on the nose, and the flavor tastes like a sweet vanilla cigar. Weird, but pretty good. I guess it’s fitting that a beer from North Carolina tastes like tobacco.

On tap at the Mello Mushroom in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Appears dark ruby with no or little foam. Aroma reminds me of vanilla soda, hops and malts. Flavor was sugary, like root beer. Very smooth, another great beer from NC brewery.

Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Throwdown. Thank to everyone who brought great beer and ribs and pickles and everything! Amber with ring. Caramel brown sugar aroma. Toast caramel marshmallow with mild coffee bitterness. High carbo, effervescent. A little thin.

Tap at House of Beers in Dunedin, FL. Rich deep crimson pour with a very clingy white head. Cinnamon and pit fruit - really nice winter beer.
