COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.

Appearance: Dark chocolate brown in the glass with a good white head, if held to a light very dark ruby red shines through.
Nose: Soft chocolate malt ‘coffee’ notes are evident with a mere hint of hop.
Taste: All depends on venting, when fresh the chocolate malt is crisp and may have a hint of phenols, when well vented or halfway through a cask, the chocolate is soft & velvety with a perfectly balanced hop and a hint of fruity fermentation esters. Becomes dryer and ever so slightly hoppier as becomes older.
Summary: A fantastic darker ale which has a changing drinking profile, which at all the stages of it’s development in cask should appeal to all who appreciate a quality pint of balanced dark real ale. Find out for yourself it’s well worth a try.

Cask at the Gallows Bird XV Real Ale Festival, Espoo, Finland.
Dark reddish brown colour with small off-white head. Milk coffee, roasted malt and some sweetness in aroma. Mild milk coffee and roasted malt in dry flavour. Too much coffee in aroma for me.

Dark brown chocolate colour and decent white head. Chocolate and malt, but with a bitter edge.

Cask @ GBBF 2011. Pours a dark brown ruby color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel finish.

Gravity at Birmingham Beer Festival 2011. Ruby brown. Thin in mouth and flavour. Some leather and coco pops infused water. Average.

Dark brown glints. Roasty aroma, a touch of apple. Slightly minerally retronasals. Good roasty malty body, some apple too. Decent malty roast in the finish, quite sweet. Reasonable balance. Pretty OK mild.

My 500th beer, which is great as this is one of my favourite brewers! On tap @ Teuchtars. Pours a beautiful opaque chestnut with a red hue around the bottom edges of the glass. The nose has chocolate and hazelnuts. The taste has more dark chocolate which softens into cream and then the hazelnuts follow it in. The palate is medium to large in structure, the texture is thick in creamy and it falls away nicely at the end. Overall, a wonderfully sessionable mild ale.

On cask at Teuchters. Pours a very dark ruby colour with a thin tan head. Lovely aroma of coffee, roasted malt and caramel. Flavour of coffee again with some caramel, roasty malt and toast. A little chewy with a dry finish. Nice.

Cask at GBBF, 2011. Chestnut brown pour with a beige head. Toffee, caramel and chocolate aroma. Caramel, vanilla and malt flavour. Dry, malty finish.
