"Lordy, thatís as red as the devilís britches," exclaimed a local rancher, awed by the vibrant canopy ablaze on what is known today as Devilís Britches trail. Highland Brewing Company commemorates the history of the Great Smoky Mountains and Devilís Britches trail with a rich, red IPA. Ashburne Mild malt produces a toasted and biscuity flavor, and Extra Special malt renders an alluring red hue. Apollo hops provide aggressive bitterness(70 IBU), while dry-hopping with Calypso hops yields complex fruity and floral aromas with hints of pear and apple. This devilishly delicious ale is Highlandís twist on the great American IPA.

Draft pour at Barleyís. Pours a reddish amber with an off-white head. Notes of amber malts, grass, florals, and citrus fruits. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, mildly bitter mouthfeel. Disappointing IPA.

Intense, rusty, clear, sudsy off white head. Ok label, US longneck. Tannic, hoppy, slightly sweet aroma. Moderately tannic, very lightly astringent, stiff bittering, toast, muted cocoa and chalk. Aftertaste is assertively bitter with toasty, tea notes. ABC, Bull Run

Pours clear amber. Nose is candy, pears, cherries, spicy hops, citrus, sweet mango. Medium toasty crackery malt flavors with a touch of burnt caramels and again the sweet fruity hop flavors. Really pretty damn solid.

Bottle--cooper color with a medium, white head. Piney hops aroma that sat well on a base of biscuit, almost like roasted hop. Biscuit and caramel flavor up front followed by a good amount of hops. Good lacing throughout with some hop bitterness on the finish. Total wine. An IPA with roast and caramel, my kind of drink.

Keg blew, so this was free. Itís an IPA with a light body. Citrus hops. Mildly bitter for the style. Slight caramel in the finish. Better than the run of the mill beer.

12oz bottles. poured a darkish amber to almost red color with white head. pleasant aroma of hops and malt and earth even got some floral in the nose. the flavor was a bit different expecting an ipa and getting one but with different hops. apollo hops i have had before but never calypso so i was at a loss as to how it was suppose to taste. not to bad mind you. i did get some yeasty biscuits in the flavor and the hops not over bearing but was good. medium bodied and easily drinkable. almost reminds me of a red ipa.

Pours a clear copper with a nice frothy head with some lacing. Aroma is spruce and dank. An earthy beer with nice bitterness, but has a metallic finish unfortunately. Some good things going on, but does not come together.

Serving: Draft. It pours a dark copper color with a small off white head. Earthy, piney hop nose. Light caramel and bread notes in the flavor, but the real star here is all the hops. Solid pine and floral notes from start to finish. Medium bodied with a lasting bitterness. Prett good.
