A deep amber colored American ale, featuring a rich malty body. Cascade and Willamette hops add a complex hop flavor and aroma. This ale is exceptionally balanced between malty sweetness and delicate hop bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2014 Not typically a style of beer I gravitate towards, but this is a particularly good amber. Plus, tastes like asheville. Pours a truly beautiful deep amber color ( I am on my first, so that is not the beer talking) with good head retention. a good amount of breadiness to it- malty sweetness and a hint of hops at first. the willamette floral notes are throwing me off a bit. the hops definitely come out more as it warms to room temp or maybe a slight burnt flavour- first few sips were the best. overall a great amber ale- by far the best offering I have tasted from Highland brewing. Having a pint at the tasting room right now. Had to lower score a bit Appearance only a 3. Nice color for an amber but No head retention. Aroma is just ok. Malt and some non-distinct Hard to pinpoint smells. Tasting more bitter than I remember. Surprising For only 30 ibu’s. Feel like I need some food with it to temper a bit. Feel like an amber should be more easy going. Slightly better with 1/2 the pint gone As it warms up. Just ok.

Pours an expected, amber, with healthy but quickly disappearing light khaki head. Taste is smooth with some roast, sweetness, fruitiness and bitterness. The sweetness is almost artificial but not overpowering, and the toast adds a nice dimension. Overall, easy drinking and flavorful. Pretty good!

Tap @ the Ritz Carlton, Buckhead, Georgia. Lovely red pour with beige head that dies too fast. Light nose of caramel, bakery, and cashews. Tastes very much like it smells. Not perfect but quite nice.

Highland Gaelic Ale is an above average table beer great with food. Moderate aroma of malt rising from a dark brown pour with an ample head. Taste is malty balanced nicely with hop flavors. Gaelic Ale is a great everyday beer but not particularly outstanding.

Draft at a FATZ in Asheville, NC served in a pint glass; clear reddish-amber color with off-white head. Aroma notes of caramel malt sweetness and mild citrus hops. Taste adds some bread, fruitiness and faint spice. Light body, moderate-low carbonation, crisp, dry with clean sweet finish. Good amber ale, better than average.

Great beer, very balanced and smooth. I'd love to have it again but my brother brought it to Seattle from Ashville. The one thing holding this beer back is the name and color. I expected a red beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rather sour for my taste. Appearance and aroma aren't off putting at all, though. Won't buy again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong caramel/malt taste. Smooth finish, not much bitterness. A head that disappears into a thin lace. Medium carbonation.

Drank on tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Raleigh, poured into a pint glass. Pours a nice dark amber color with light beige head. Couldn’t pick up on any distinctive aromas. But has nice flavor and very well balanced, you can taste the hops along with everything else!

Pours golden-red with a slight off-white head. Nose is fairly generic amber ale and not very potent. This pattern holds for the flavor; it’s a decent, drinkable beer not no part of it stands out in a meaningful way.
