2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: SEP 6, 2005 Bottle... Dark, clear, amber ale. Tiny, off-white head. The nose is sort of non-descript, but it’s up against cigar smoke and something with a lot of vinegar just down the bar. Well-balanced flavor. Medium bitter and lightly tangy. Light-bodied and watery with medium carbonation. Finishes lightly bitter and dry.

Tap at Taco Mac. Copper pour. Small head. Aroma is nice and malty balanced out with some good floral hops. Flavor has some sweetness, but it countered with the right amount of bitterness. Pretty damn good.

Bottle acquired in trade with Johnathan3584 (thanks!) Poured a dark amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and oranges. Tastes of the same. A little on the earthy side as well. Thinner body.

A red ale with a touch of roasted malt that makes it on the Scottish heritage given Highland’s theme. It’s in the aroma, and the aroma gives off a booziness far behind its ranking. Quite malty and medium plus mouthfeel, with hop bitterness rounding off the finish.Reddish brown colour with white foam covering.

Acquired via trade. This was pretty good, deserving of this brewery's "flagship beer" status. Pours a deep amber color with a medium and foamy light tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with an assertive malt flavor and a touch of hops. Finish is sweet but not overly so. Not bad at all.

My Bottom Line :
Suave caramelized cereals develop pleasant toasted and fruity nuances before a balancing resinous, leafy hop bitterness seals this competent Amber Ale .
Further Personal Perceptions :
-.A ring of foam circles the deep russet.
-The aroma also has burnt toffee subtleties which are quite pleasant.
-Carbonation is soft and residual sugars plump, making for a wealthy mouthfeel, especially for the style.
-Hops contribute subtle citrusy fruitiness, but mostly shine in the finish.
-Even though I am not a fan of the style, I have to say the malt structure and flavor in this one are compelling.

Thanks to Suttree for this. Copper pour with medium, off-white head. Aroma of malt, toffee, nuts, some hops. Tastes malty, with hops, toffee, and slight cognac elements. Smooth finish. This one is very good.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a large, fluffy, light brown heead and a hazy amber body. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is malty and a bit peety...Very sweet with some dark fruits. Taste is malty, sweet with some dark fruits and cereal. Its also a bit husky with a bit of alcohol uncovered in the finish. Somewhat warming for a 5.8% beer, water like mouthfeel with tingly little bubbles.
