(Thanks to Drew for the bottle) Amber pour. Not much head, but decent lacing. Malty aromas with lots of crystal malt. Malty flavors, but a touch of eathy hops. Light alcohol in the finish.

From the botle poured a pale amber brew with a thin white head which dissipated rapidly. Aromas of malt and hops with a slight tip to the malt side. Flavors were also malt and hops leaning towards the hoppy side with a dry finish and a slight hop after taste.

Pours a nice dark brown on tap with thick tan head and solid lacing. Smell is caramel and roasted malts. Taste is malty with a bit of bitter piney finish. Well balanced but leaves a dry, bitter mouth. Very good beer.

Bottle at EBBC12. Roast malt, liquorice, a strongly bitter finish. Does not come over as well balanced.

This is a deep amber brew with a small and brief head. The smell is citrus and tart hops, but there’s a tone in the aroma that I don’t like. Kind of a dirty socks quality that I sometimes detect in brews that I think are a little too hoppy. The hops in the flavor are definitely strong, but it’s actually not really too hoppy. Slightly dry, a bit thin, somewhat grassy. Nothing to write lovesongs about, but not bad.

Great Scottish ale; light to medium brown color with sweet taste and dry, clean finish. Lots of malt w/ caramel taste blended with just the right amount of hops.

Proof that American ambers don’t have to be boring. Aromas of malt and fruit. Taste is malt and caramel, a touch sweet. Wish I could get this in Houston.

12oz bottle pours a translucent, copper amber with some frothy white head. Nose has plenty of malt, biscuit, cracker, a little lemon, some light pear, earthy. Flavor is very malt forward, crackermeal, biscotti, almonds, light caramel, a little red grape. Medium bodied, dry, malty finish. As far as amber ales go... this is a pretty good one.

Originally reviewed: 5/26/09. Grabbed a pint of this for lunch. Came out a deep amber gold with very little head on it. Lacing was absent as well. Smelled roasty and sweet.
Mouthfeel was thin and wet. Disappointing. Flavor was a big let down as well. Very malty and sweet. Finishes like toasted brown sugar. There was very little bitterness in this at all. Pretty bland overall. I was sorely disappointed with this beer as I’ve heard good things. I’ll give the bottle a try and see if it is any better...

12 oz. bottle from a shaker. Pours a deep amber color with a small white head. Aroma has a lot of sweet caramel malt. Taste has a lot of sharp, citrusy hops up front, a sligthly resinous middle, and a nice malty finish. Very tasty, but standard amber ale. Well balanced hops and sweetness.
