Keg at Draft House London. Black, big foamy tan head, uneven lacing. Smell - ash and background fruity hops. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is light chocolate malts, more ash, some new world fruity hops bringing a little astringency to the finish. No alcohol noticeable and not sharp etc. Very drinkable hoppy stout. Good.

AshtonMcCobb (2458) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 30, 2014
On tap at the Bow Bar winter beer festival. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely creamy head. Nose - dark chocolate and dried fruit. Taste - intense prunes and chocolate. Some oranges in there too. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that has a relatively fresh finish when you consider the big body and the alcohol is practically invisible. Overall - stunning beer that grows with every sip.

Cask @malt & hops. Pours black, sweet on the nose with chocolate and liquorice being the major players. Quite boozy, you know it’s eight percent. There is a light bitterness to the finish under a coffee and chocolate main taste.

(cask) pours black in colour with a creamy beige head. aroma of vanilla and sugar icing, toasted malts, dark chocolate, light avocado and alcohol. flavour is chocolate fudge, peanuts and soy sauce, with a hint of oxidation, a light sweetness and a light toasted-bitter finish. heavy-bodied with almost no carbonation.

BenH (2239) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 15, 2013
Cask at bat. Black with tan head. Aroma of licorice, molasses, dark fruit, prune, coffee and chocolate. Taste is incredibly rich, licorice, molasss, dark fruits, plum, prune, raisins, some chocolate and roasty notes as well. Thock and sweet with quite a clean finish. Could do with a touch more carb, quite flat on the palate. Wowzers. An amazing beer.

Cask at Bat. Deep viscous brown/black pour with a small compact beige head. Huge rich nose - liquorice, molasses, tobacco, liquorice, liquorice, dark cooking chocolate. Amazingly powerful. Big warm roast flavours, some dark chocolate, soft vanilla, big umami, just an incredibly subtle fruity caramel thing lurking under the surface. Touch of mellow booze and soft roasty bitterness on the finish. A touch flat, but absolutely amazing otherwise. Incredibly moreish, a very dangerous characteristic for an 8% beer!!

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2014 cask at tap Sept 2012 ... deep black ... thin tan head ... soft dark roast ... light chocolate nose ... big mellow meaty roast malts ... rich dark fruits ... soft coffee ... huge meaty finish ... lovely soft silky body but maybe little too soft on carbonation ... lovely 4.2

Cask at the malt and hops Jan 2014 (same batch as above)... Deep black... Small Bubbly tan head... Soft mellow chocolate... Mellow soft whisky ... Rich meaty chocolate malts... Deep soft roast ... Nicely balanced whisky... Light rounded body... Light but perfectly adequate carbonation... Drinks a little too easily if anything... 4.3 oh yeah baby .. Well blow me, not BA in any way, i can still tasting this lingering on my lips and id still swear it was Whisky Barrel but Brewer says not, Just the same batch as Sept 2012 rating left in a Firkin And twice more from sane barrel i think thus just gets better and better. 4.5
