COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A brilliant, dry pale ale with an aggressive hop character balanced with a smooth finish. A bold beer best consumed with a stiff upper lip.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with goldtwins, thanks Larry!) This has a nice, sweet orange citrus nose with gentle aromas of pale malts and fresh hops. That sweet orange citrus carries over into the initial flavor, and combines with a very pleasant and fairly sweet maltiness. Gradually, the flavor transforms a bit as a mildly bitter hops kicks in for a wonderfully balanced finish to this mild flavored beer. Itís actually very sweet and way too mild for an IPA, but I really like the quiet transfer from sweet citrus and malt early to mild bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a fairly soft and pleasing mouthfeel, quite smooth, but partially because of the low hops content. Medium gold color is crystal clear, and the smallish, off-white head diminishes to a halo within a few minutes, but thatís only a minor problem. This beer may be a bit pedestrian, not pushing the envelope in any way, and not really even an IPA, but itís a very drinkable beer, tasty, pleasant and enjoyable.

Mangino (1027) - Mississippi, USA - JUN 22, 2005
Pours a slightly hazy golden color. Small white head. Aroma is weak, alittle hop to it. Flavor is "mediciney"pine and a little bread thing to it. Not bad.

Thanks to Springslicker for this one. Pours light golden with a tiny white head. Aroma is earthy hops. Taste is berries? sharp hops. The hops almost burn a little bit. Thin body.

Golden colored with a small filmy white head. Grainy bread and biscut nose, with an odd resemblence to a Saaz hopped pils. Flavor has a dusty and airy hop and wet grain flavor so prevalent in mediocre IPAs and pale ales: toast and dried grass, I guess it would be best to describe it as. Finished light and clean, but without much flavor other than a ESB-like bite. Certainly not a bad beer, but not close to what I consider a worthy IPA.

Fish (440) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 13, 2005
Strangely pale gold color, very little head. Typical citrusy IPA aroma and hopsy flavor, but much more on the malts side than Iíve come to expect from an IPA. I think I would prefer the Highland Gaelic Ale or Oatmeal Porter above this brew.

DocLock (7703) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 25, 2005
Pours hazy canary with medium head. Aroma of hopcit, fruit. Tastes hopcity, with a malty, fruity finish. Smooth on the palate. This is the goldest (non copperest) IPA Iíve ever had.

SpringsLicker (3115) - Tennessee, USA - APR 24, 2005
Bottle. Iíve had this several times on tap, but htis is the first time from a bottle. Not quite the IPA I remember from the past and I expect more from this brewer. Huge head over a hazy dark yellow body. Sweet malt and gentle pine aroma which certainly isnít overdone, but o.k. Balanced flavor need mor eintensity. This makes a fine APA but falls short of being a top IPA.

Acquired in trade with goldtwins. Poured a medium, cloudy golden color with a very small white head. Aromas of flowers and very light citrus. Tastes of flowers and light citrus as well. Very lightly bitter with a very light sweetness to it. Weaker version of an IPA.

egajdzis (5253) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 15, 2005
Poured hazy golden color with no head or lacing on the glass. Floral aroma, not hops, but rose petals, light citrus as well. Taste of tangerine, grass, and a very light bitterness. A very different IPA.

Bottle pours pale yellow, slightly hazy, large frothy white head, spotty lacing, with soft carbonation. † Stale oatmeal aroma, no hop at all. † Very thin pale malt flavor... where are the hops? † Body is medium, mouthfeel is medium, but this beer is boring. † Not bad, just not an IPA by any stretch of the means... nor a Pale Ale. † Aggressive hop character? † Bold beer? † Um... at least it doesnít taste bad... but its no IPA. † It tiz somewhat smooth tho... at least they got that bit of advertising correct.   Thanks goes out to goldtwins for the trade!
