A brilliant, dry pale ale with an aggressive hop character balanced with a smooth finish. A bold beer best consumed with a stiff upper lip.

Bottle: Light hazy light orange/yellow color with a thin white head. The aroma is all bright citrusy hops, juicy mouthfeel with soft carbonation, starts and ends bitter with a long bitter aftertaste. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2008 12 oz. Clear, orange-copper with a small but persistent head. Aroma is citrus and pekoe tea leaf, mixed with cereal and honey. Flavor is initially dry grain, turning sweetish and then citrus, peppery hops. Wow, this is really a complex flavor that doesnít just knock you over with a single note of hop flavor- goes back and forth nicely from maltiness to hops and on to different hop flavors. Pleasant surprise. Palate is smooth and light-medium bodied.

Tap at the brewery... not hugely hoppy but more than most Highland products. I guess in keeping with the scottish roots of the brewery, it is more of a hoppy Scottish ale. A little lighter in body, but still plenty of malt. Wish I could get it in Knoxville, one of Highlands best beers.

Almost pure amber with a nice foamy head that left a good sheet of lace. Very perfurmed hop nose with a bit of lime rind and possibly mango or something tropical. Very balanced flavor, with a citrusy hop right up front balanced by a doughy cookie like maltiness. Finish is fairly bitter but still pretty well balanced. Thereís a lingering citric bitterness like chewing on lemon rind. Palate is on the light side, making this very quaffable, and at 5.6% ABV, its a great semi-session beer.

I havenít had this in a while and am pretty pleased. It is crisp than I remember. Nice soft mouthfeel and a clean finish. I will pick up a six pack again sometime.

Citrus Hops, Sweet Yeasts, Malts and Barley with a mild Floral Hoppy taste which blends in with the flavor. Feels rather crisp and refreshing. Good tasting beer, but I would classify this as a Belgian Pale Ale because of the flavor which Iím getting.

Clear golden body with white head & nice lacing. Citrus, floral aromas. Balanced malt backbone with wonderfully hoppy flavors. Crisp, bright & lightly bitter finish.

Review date 6/30/2009... Iím finally getting to pouring this 12 oz. of Asheville goodness into a Duvel tulip... Pours a nice honey-straw color with a light pffft of the cap. Head is rather tight - just a thin layer of wisps up top. Can see a decent amount of carbonation and movement. Slight lacing isnít too bad. Very clean scent - a little caramel malt and maybe just a tinge of floral hops but itís extremely light. Not unpleasant - just very calm and quiet. Maybe a little bit of silage in there, too. A little strawy - gets a little Belgian IPA kick after a while with some raw grains The hoppiness comes out a little bit more here - somewhat floral and nicely balanced with subtle caramel malt. Nothing exotic - just a decent, straightforward IPA. Crisp, dry finish. With some warmth I am enjoying this even more. Donít judge this book by its cover...it may not elicit a lot of emotion on its looks or scent but for a decent, solid IPA itís not bad at all. Drinks nicely - very clean...again, quite dry (a good thing)...and no real aftertaste. Itís been in the fridge for a month but doesnít show any age. Solid. Well, hell, I know what Iím drinking in session the next time Iím around Asheville. This must be very good out of the tap, too. Doesnít come out of the gates quickly but itís a marathon, not a sprint.

Poured from bottle. Nice hop, malt, ocean aroma. Almost clear gold with lacing head. I taste citrus and floral hops with a bit of sweetness and a malt back. Banana and pepper notes as well. Hops are not overpowering. Decent - a good "go to" choice.
