This American Pale Ale is a refreshing session beer meticulously handcrafted with a unique Highland twist. Brewed with grains from America’s heartland, using Simcoe hops for bittering and dry hopped with Amarillo and Cascade for aromatics, this beer finishes crisp and clean. It is a plate pleasing seasonal experience.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2011 First off, I am aware that Highland names their seasonal brews after mountain peaks in the area, but dang, "Little Hump" has got to be one of the worst names ever. Or maybe one of the aweseomest. Either way, it’s certainly eye catching. Anyway, this is a pretty simple beer, but right in my wheel house as far as what I like in a session beer. Light an crisp, nicely hoppy in a slightly citrusy way, and a crisp and unassuming malt base. Tasty stuff.

Serving: Draft. It pours a clear gold with a frothy white head. Pleasant citrus and grass notes in the nose. Light pale malt notes up front with a solid hop bite. Not too aggressive, just about right. More citrus and grass in the finish. A nice little session brew.

light amber color; citrusy, grapefruit hop aroma; a dry, citrusy pale ale; very light malt background lets the citrusy hops shine; dry, bitter finish

Bottle: Clear gold with a frothy white head. Light pine, grass, caramel scent. Taste is barley, grassy hops, light caramel malt. A very nice little sessionable APA.

Bottle. Light orange-caramel malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Lightly sweet orange malt and mildly bitter citrus peel flavor. Okay but pretty mundane.

12oz bottle from Winslow’s in Greenville, N.C. Golden hue, hazy clarity (can see my fingers on the other side of the glass), with mostly diminishing white fizzy head. Excellent lacing. Strong citrus hop (grapefuit), light spice aromas. Strong bitter grapefruit and lemon up front with the same finish. Fizzy carbonation, dry on the palate.

Pale yellow with a thing white head. Aroma is mild pine hops with a bit of cut grass. Flavor is floral and grassy with a finish that’s a little watery. Mild bitterness, pleasant but could be much better. Wife: 3.75

Pours golden light with small head. Not my favorite style. Tastes stale and bready. Not good to me.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2014 Aroma: Nice mixture of clementine citrus with a little herbal spiciness; malts are reminiscent of toasted white bread. Appearance: Filtered bright yellow gold with a foamy white head that settles into a sticky, bubbly white skin. Flavor: More citrus than spice up front with the semi-sweet malts; malts drop out and Simcoe steals the show with a light lemongrass push toward the finish. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: This is a well conceived and executed beer.

Floral, peachy and slightly grapefruity hop with a touch of pale malt. Fairly bitter character, light pale and biscuity malt character. Lingering hop finish with a moreish touch of crackery malt. Pretty nice.
