3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at the Barley's, Asheville, NC.
Dark reddish brown almost black colour with a small light tan head.
Roasted malt, sweetness, mild coffee and dark chocolate in the aroma.
Roasted malt, sweetness and mild hops in the flavour. Decent porter. A bit less sweetness and it'll be great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: clear dark ruby brown, with lighter brown highlights and a creamy medium tan head. Aroma: very roasty nose, with dark chocolate, espresso, light vanilla. Taste: bittersweet dark chocolate, roasty coffee, hint of chocolate cookies, light toffee and cream. Finish: dry and smooth, creamy palate, roasty bitterness lingers. Notes: Excellent porter, decently balanced, with the oatmeal adding an excellent creaminess to the palate.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Brisben shared at Porch Nite. Pours a dark brown with a finger or so of head. Aroma is chocolate, slight roast. Flavor is still chocolate and very slight roastiness but is also somewhat sweet with some toffee. Seems too sweet, though. Overall a good beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from a recent trade. Poured into a small snifter at home. A dark, watery pour with a small tan head. The aroma was dark bread, malts, sweet chocolates, nibs, and cocoa. The taste was dark malts, sweet chocolate morsels, vanilla, cream. The body was very light, almost watery. I didn’t think the beer was as bold as marketed and was looking for more body from an oatmeal porter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Purchased at "DEP’s Liquor" in Covington, KY - This is a very dark... heck, a black hued porter with a thick, light brown hued, finely bubbled head. The aroma is an oatmeal-coffee-cocoa mix that was somewhat lighter than I expected, but that was probably just my nose. Tastewise, this one has great body and balance, a rich, lasting flavor that has a nice grainy finish. Yes, I have to state that this is the best black porter since Eddie "Rochester" Anderson! :-)
Okee-dokee, folks... extra points are given out to those who understand that reference!
p.s. Clue - he was a train porter before becoming J. B.’s valet.

Transfer from BA review on 9-7-12 -
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a very deep brown color with a huge tan head. When held to the light, ruby streaks can be seen shinning through the brew. The thick billowy head fades rather slowly eventually dropping down and leaving a great level of lacing.
Smell – The smell is a good dose of sweet chocolate and roasted malt. Mixed with these are light caramel smell and the littlest bit of earthy hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt and very light chocolate flavor. As the taste advances the sweeter chocolate flavor dwindles in strength. At the end, a light earthy hop bitterness comes to the tongue and with the loss of the sweet chocolate leaves a roasty and dry flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The lower carbonation is good for the flavors, but a bit of the thicker body would have been good for all the roasty and the lighter hop flavors.
Overall – It had a really nice look and smell, but the taste was a little too dry and simple with a mouthfeel that could use some more thickness. While not bad it is a brew I wouldn’t go to on occasion.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking black colored body with a decent one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated in about a minute. There was some light foamy lacing trying to cling but it slid for the most part.
The smell had a robust and dry flavored roasty coffee to chocolate aroma with a slight toasted effect to it.
The taste was bitter and sweet. It was bitter through the coffee notes but sweet through the chocolate.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body, perhaps closer to the medium side with a fairly decent sessionability. The carbonation seemed right on for the style and to me. There’s a nice bitterness running over my tongue in a non-assaulting manner.
Overall, I liked this porter, but I didn’t get much of any sort of "oatmeal" aspect about it.

Very smooth beer. Pours dark dark dark. This beer gets better the warmer it gets. Roasted/ toasted notes are delicious. Great porter!

This dark chocolate pour with a soft, light amber head reeks of chocolate, fruits and roasted coffee. What a fantastic combination of flavors! Lightly bitter and slightly salty, this oatmeal porter has a wonderful smooth feel and almost no aftertaste at all. It’s almost as if you are having that first delightful swallow over and over again! Highly recommended!
