COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 A well-balanced porter; of all the porters I’ve sampled, this one has the most enjoyable and distinctive presence of subtle hops both in the aroma and the taste. Has a standard black appearance, aroma is consistent and anticipates the flavor well. The flavor is balanced and complex with roasty malts, chocolate and coffee malty accents, and also a mildly bitter hoppy finish. I can’t discern which specific hops but the flavor is definitely there. Medium-bodied, finishes a little oily. Exceptionally good overall, and is a bargain buy in the southeast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

12 oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a small light tan head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and toasted malts. Taste is pretty much the same as aroma. Big roasty malt finish. Medium body, slightly chewy texture, average carbonation. Somewhat long finish. Almost stout-like, but a bit thinner and easier to drink. Very good!

12 oz. bottle, Shared with multiple others at brew club. Pours a medium, light beige head, over a clear brown (SRM 20) body.....nose is coffee, light chocolate, cereal....taste is light coffee, chocolate, cereal, mild hop bitterness....mouth feel light and thin, carbonation makes a fizzy mouthful. This is a very simple and light oatmeal containing beer. The mouth feel is very light and watery. This needs more oatmeal and or wheat to improve on mouth feel and increase complexity. UPDATED: FEB 13, 2014 Highland Oatmeal Porter is well-balanced but not what one would expect from a porter. Nice fresh hop aroma but no chocolate or coffee detected. Appearance is dark with a thinner light tan head that holds for most of the drink. Taste is mild malt with notes of chocolate and slight coffee, but these disappear way too quickly leaving a clean finish. Oatmeal Porter is a decent meal beer, but not very satisfying as a porter.

Twelve oz bottle: pours black with thin tan head that goes quickly, smells of coffee, taste is crisp with medium carbonation, smooth with coffee overtones but not heavy. Lingers long and heavier on the finish, more than other porters. Overall a pleasant porter but you may not want more than one at a sitting due to having to cleanse your palate after the finish.

Highland created great heavy scents of roasted coffee and dark chocolate when brewing this super opaque porter that is almost a stout (if you think there’s a difference). Great mouthfeel, with just enough sweet and minimal bitter overtones. This one pairs well with another bottle. Not my favorite style so I could only give it a 12 overall.
