chronictonic (366), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 29, 2008 on tap - jack of the wood pub - asheville nc<br />Poured a mahogony dark brown nearly black with a medium tan head. Mild aroma of sweet malt with toffee notes. Medium body - slightly roasty but not over the top. Great mouth feel from the oats - smooth and creamy. Very well balanced ported.
brewski519 (31), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Oct 31, 2008 Pours a very dark brown - almost black. Very slight head.
Smell of chocolate and roasted coffee which was fantastic. The taste was brown malts with notes oc cocoa and slight espresso.
This is a porter that I enjoy very much and have even gotten my wife to the point where this is her beer of choice. Kirill (248), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 30, 2008 dark brown with almost no head, smells like fresh nuts, very hoppy porter, quite refreshing at light without losing substance... a citrusy bitterness starts the taste and from there its hops and chocolate JaBier (76), Capital City, Ohio, USA Oct 28, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a 1/2 inch head. Aroma is roasty with some coffee and chocolate, but smells very lager-ish. Perhaps a little too much hop. Flavor is roasty, but the hop adds too much to that. Almost tastes slightly burnt. Not much else going on in the flavor department. Not a bad beer in the least, but not terribly far above average. merlin48 (362), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Oct 27, 2008 Dark chestnut body supports an attractive beige head. Aroma of chocolate, rolled oats, dark roast, and hops. Smooth medium body with some oatmeal softness. Taste has a nice bitter dark roast component complimented by notes of chocolate, oats, and fruity hops. Very nicely done and quite enjoyable. StanMemTn (30), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Oct 21, 2008 Nice black pour from the bottle. A good head with some lacing. Strong hops presence with depth and maltiness that make this very satisfying. The first beer that I really liked and the reason I got interested in beer in the first place.
