3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, USA - MAR 13, 2004
Nice black color, small tan head that faded quickly leaving just a faint bit of lace. The aroma was Malty and chocolate with some hint of coffee and possibly fruit but since i have a cold it's hard to actually put my finger on some of these aroma's.Malty taste with a mild sweet side up front, chocolate and then a slight bitterness coming on towards the end. This is a very nice brew better then i expected, and it gets better as it warms up with a better chocolate and malt coming through.Makes me wish i had a few more of this one. Thanks to Suttree for sending this brew my way.

Got this on the cruise ship Celebrity Infinity as we made our way from Juneau to Skagway up the inside passage. Pours a black color with a medium sized tan head and moderate lacing. The is coffee and chocolate with some pine hops. Medium n body. Slick in the mouth. The flavor is mostly malts with lots of chocolate. Bitter finish. Good porter.

12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a medium, tan head. The aroma is coffee, molasses, caramel, pine, and bitter chocolate. The flavor is malty sweetness and slightly bitter and sour. The palate is medium to heavy, grainy, syrupy, and thick. Overall, this is a nice, malty, and balanced stout.

Dark see-through brown pour. Taste and aroma of bitter chocolate and a little pinch of coffee. Pretty solid flavors throughout. A little thinner than I thought, but that helped its relative smoothness.

This poured dark, but slightly lighter than I would expect for a porter, with a slight head. Roasted flavors come through. It’s very biting and somewhat harsh in texture.

Clear very dark amber with a beige head and good lacing. Taste is impressive: roasted malt and light caramel with a very light chocolate bittering. The taste grows as it moves to the finish. Satisfying, not a typical American Porter (i.e. lots of chocolate/coffee), and a nice surprise from my wife after a trip to Biltmore in Asheville NC.

Originally reviewed: 3/9/09. Pours a deep cola-like color with a large frothy tan head resting on top. This retains perfectly and leaves with it some nice sticky lacing. The smell on this one is weak. Some roasted malts present, hints of coffee. Barely detecting anything.
This is so incredibly creamy and smooth. It slips down the throat so velvety. My tongue appreciates this beer. Wonderful. Like the smell, the taste on this is weak. I can see what they were trying to do, but they fell short on accomplishment. Hints of roasted coffee, very bready. It’s a decent flavor, but nothing that knocked my socks off. Having said all that though, this has got to be one of the more drinkable porters out there. Great mouthfeel. Nothing terrible or astringent about it at all. Recommend.

A bit thin for an oatmeal brew, but I suppose this is a porter and not a stout. The taste is rich, though, and smooth. Nice balance. Would drink again.

Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma is dark roasted malts with a bit of java. Taste is rather mild for a porter. Mostly malt character with some cocoa notes but overall is a very smooth and drinkable porter.
