12 ounce bottle- poured out a promising shiny black with a thick tan head. Aroma was sweet, including cherries and malt. Palate was thin, a little disappointing. Taste was average, earthy and thin. Average.

12oz bottle from trade. Pours a thin brown color with a finger of foamy light tan head. Aroma of light roasted malts, cardboard, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is better then the aroma. Roasted malts, some earthy bitterness, burnt toast, and some citrus tang in the finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
BOD 12/3/14. Pours dark as a starless night. World Class head volume, lacing and retention.
Nice nose of roast and slight chocolate over a subtle malt sweetness.
Light medium body with a smooth texture that has hints of creaminess. Superb carbonation with a nice prickly effervescence from the middle on.
The flavor profile is intense enough, well balanced and reasonably complex. It begins with a blend of roast and weak chocolate that never really delivers a flavor punch. The middle has a slight bitterness and is where the oatmeal quality can be detected. The finish is a slow fade of light roast bitterness. A good starter for the porter/stout style since it has the classic flavor components but delivers them in a "light" style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark, opaque brown color with tan head. Roasted malt, oats not surprisingly, and a hint of cocoa on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes smooth.

This is a very dark beer that is good on cold nights. Has a distinct oatmeal taste. Good aroma and a creamy head. Nice palate with great overall taste. Well done.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Location: Draft at the Biltmore, 1/1/15
Aroma: Light nose with chocolate and roasted notes, caramel, and some hints of ash
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a decent sized tan head on top
Flavor: Flavor-wise, it is pretty similar to the nose, light and a little sweet, ashy and bitter notes
Palate: Light bodied and a little thin, not quite watery, but thinner than I would have preferred
Thought this was a decent one, though it is a little thin overall. The flavor, aroma, and even the feel just come off as a little muted/thin. Decent, drinkable, hardly memorable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach. Pours black with a tannish brown head leaving tons of sticky lace. Aroma has molasses and licorice and caramel with light chocolate & raisin touches. Taste is of raisins, light roast, caramel, some molasses and a bit of cocoa. Medium to full bodied without any alcohol presence. Finishes well blended between bitter and sweet, but quite short. No bottle date, and more raisin-y than sweet or roasty, so that is a concern. Highland continues to supply mediocre stuff. 13.4

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Poured dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma was chocolate and the taste was also of chocolate and black coffee. Medium bodied with a long finish. Overall an ok porter but a little strong on the coffee taste.

Nothing but hops. All I taste. Awful beer. Hops are so strong you cannot taste anything else.

I am a fan of deeper and darker porters. The Oatmeal porter, while good, is missing the deep coffee/chocolate taste of other porter offerings. I consider this offering to almost in essence be a "lite-porter" if you catch my drift
