At 9% ABV it sits nicely beside our Orkney Porter, also 9%, and is the first time we’ve brewed a barley wine. A lovely deep amber in colour, we loaded it full of American hops - and then we put some more in! All in the interest of balance, it also contains a small mountain of Maris Otter pale malt.

hazy bright orange, lacing beige head, sticky sweet toffee, boozy, warming, high fruity yeast esters, very much a sipper for sharing.

Bottle share, thanks to Strokey, as ’Swannay Old Norway’, 8%. Clear dark orange, lightly sparkling, small foamy off-white head, light lacing. Aroma is piney, air freshener, floral astringent hops. Body is medium to light, tingly carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is strong caramel, honey, astringent piney hops. For me it’s got too much of a sweet-yet-astringent vibe, but it’s OK I suppose.

Bottle split in the Bespin cloud network, thanks to Bropey, 20/10/15. Clear golden amber with a moderate off White covering. Nose is rich fruits, citric notes, pineapple jus, caramel, light spice, slightly sour edge. Taste comprises caramelised brown sugar, sweet licks, pineapple cubes, toasty Malts, sweet tropical vibes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with sweet lickings. Ok but overly sweet .

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Scopey. Pours totally clear deep gold with a frothy white head. Old citrus in the nose, leaves, earth, marmalade. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a little alcohol boost, more jammy citrus, earth, wood. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with further marmalade, woody dryness, honey, toffee. Rich and pretty tasty.

Bottle. Lovely orange appearance with a powerful slightly hoppy and bitter flavour. A dangerous and rather dangerous beer.

Drinking 330ml bottled. This is a great beer. Copper to deep red-amber colour, minimal head. Incredible aroma, strongly chocolate and caramel with smoked malt, slight hint of citrus and cucumber hiding behind. Mouthfeel adhesive and oily. Rich malty body, structured hops, alcoholic and slightly sweet aftertaste. Whole impression is extremely distinctive. Could pick this out of a lineup after smoking 20 marlboro reds and cleaning my teeth.

Bottle from Cornelius. Labelled at 8%. Irn bru orange, no head. Sticky summer fruits jam nose, underlying citrus tang. Sprightly body, good carbonation but still quite thick. Raisin and caramel. Wow.
