COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
At 9% ABV it sits nicely beside our Orkney Porter, also 9%, and is the first time we’ve brewed a barley wine. A lovely deep amber in colour, we loaded it full of American hops - and then we put some more in! All in the interest of balance, it also contains a small mountain of Maris Otter pale malt.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2010. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear dark amber in colour with a thin white head. Strong jellied fruit confectionary in the long aroma. Thin but milk like texture in the rich mouthfeel and poor lacing. Strong pale malt complexes deliver a robust juicy maltloaf base with rich notes of lychees, honeydew melon, pineapple and soft brown sugar. There is a slight hint of tropical fruit flavoured hop flowers in this with pine resin evident in the long aftertaste. Malt returns with sweet linctus notes of golden syrup and fermented gaia melon, smoothly warming the throat. Fantastic stuff and highly recommended, try this out along with the Porter what a combo. Highland brewerys portfolio is Scotland’s answer to Thornbridge - bring it on!

Cask, The Sheffield Tap, Sheffield. Clear amber-honey appearance, even cream head. Sweet aroma, floral and honey. Smooth, boozy with caramel and fruit, nectarine and golden raisin. Long sweet alcohol tempered finish. Great.

Alcohol burn in this decent cask barley wine - thick and chewy with a hint of hops. Solid effort. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[cask at Bacchus, Newcastle] Clear bronze-coloured pour, with a good head. Sweet, honey nose, plenty of tacky malt and almond on the nose. Flavours are big and strong, no question. Big marzipan sweetness, honey, figs and then warming alcohol. Very fruity after the sweetness resides. Finish is very long. Nice stuff [12112011]
